Yeah, that's the one drawback with this location: clutter. The only way to get any unobstructed view of these trains - without trespassing - is to stand in this one tiny area.
I'll check into that, Josh. It will be a while before I can justify it, but I'm looking to get some new glass for the XTi. Hopefully, that will allow me to capture some really clean images for uses like that.
These were taken on 4/26/07 on a spur off the Tropicana Line (CSX). The guys were re-lining the track and inspecting other areas that needed attention.
How would you like to be in charge of stocking touch up paint for that consist? Guess that's why some of the locals call it the rainbow RR.
As a side note on that image, the smoke stack to the left of the shot was part of Alabama Power's generating system that was once used to power Birmingham's street cars.
