I need to do a small N scale switching layout... Im bored, and I DONT have any room to even do a small HO layout right now, but I could have some room for a small N scale switching district, down the 10' wall and then down the 5' wall in my room, L-Shaped, 2'-2'6" deep.... opinions??? Ive never done an N layout before, but i need to do something! Im tired of not running trains  LOL

Industries that im thinking about:

Large Warehouses in a small district with a bit of street running
Cement
Grain
Oil (possibly)
Lumber
Paper Mill

Dude... that's plenty of room for HO if you still want to go that route.
Draw it out, I'm sure you'll get ideas!

A lot of folks would give their right arm (their "significant other's" right arm, that is...) for that kind of space. There's quite a few on-going discussions of shelf layouts both here and in the Big Blue place...I'm sure you can find a wealth of info in either forum....

Thanks guys :D

I think it is decided, I will do a small N scale shelf style layout. i just got home and measured the available space. I would like to have a complete loop, so ill have to work that in and have turn-arounds on either side of the "L"

Measurements:

(1) 10' Wall
(1) 6' Wall

Together that will make the "L"

2'6" deep with 40" squares on either end of the "L"

Going to draw up the benchwork right now so it all makes sense LOL

Okay, so here is the benchwork. The black with lines through it is my bed, the layout will sit 30" above the top of my mattress (a little below eye level), which will still give me plenty of room underneath (my pillows are on the left side of the bed so i wont be completely in a cave LOL). I will have to stand on a small step-ladder when constructing the layout, but that is how I like to look at things, at eye level.... Reaching back in the corners should also not be too much of an issue when using the step-ladder. The bechwork is a little larger then I had planned and im pushing it with what I have shown below, its also not an L but I want a small/medium sized yard (which will be on the 8' wall) so this will allow for a nice yard while not loosing out on the space it would take up else where on the layout lol. Here is the benchwork for now, ill start a fresh new thread to display updates with some track on the plan once i get to that point...

Josh we're looking at doing up an On30 layout in less space than that.
Should be a pretty good size N layout if you go that route!
