What he and others didn't mention about the fascination of this great hobby is that most all the Locomotives, Freight Cars etc are Scale Reproductions of their counterparts, as best possible which allows us to create realistic scenes in miniature that are also in the same scale and so believable.
Compared to the quality of the castings of say 55 years ago the current machining and injection molding capabilities are many times more precise. This even heightens our sense of being right there as everything is so realistic. All of this allows our imagination so much more freedom to recreate what may have been reality in miniature as well as allowing us to carry it to whatever extent we care to.
Also, this hobby is one of the few that can encompasses most all aspects of learning and
researching an unlimited variety of areas pertaining to our modeling. Again, as the modeler see's fit?
Yes it's one of the greatest hobbies and having this forum as well as other sources to access via the computer also enhances our experience and ability to share them with others while we can live within our creations.
