How far can a tortise throw

I have a frog that lands right in the middle of a joint. Can't move the joint and can't wiggle the T/O either way. It will be a 2 1/4 inch reach up to the throw bar. Can a tortise do it with a stronger throw wire than the one that comes with it. If so what diameter should I look at? Tks

Terry, are you saying that the thickness is because of a joist supporting the subroadbed at the seam? I have had this happen and I cut the joist to fit the tortoise and re-framed around the space (frame first;)). The new framing will support the existing cut joist. However, with any longer than norm distance I use 0.032" wire for my throw link. I think the supplied is 0.026. You have to drill the holes out very slightly on the Tortoise and a pin vise drill bit is best for this.
