I installed a Soundtraxx DSD AT100 sound decoder in my Athrean RS3. I got sounds, idle, bell and horn but when I throttled up the loco I got a ding sound and then nothing for 2 sec. then a higher idle sound. Also my loco only go's in reverse when I select fwd or reverse.
Athrean RS-3's
I know on Tony's Train exchange site there was something somewhere about the Athrean RS-3's lower motor contact that had to be fixed or maybe it would blow your decoder. It said some engines where fine and other were not. I know this because I was going to buy two Athrean NYC RS-3's and looked on Tony's site to fine out how easy it was to install the decoders being they were DCC ready. When they canceled the NYC model I bought 2 Atlas PC RS-4/5's. I looked just now and could not find the thread. I hope that's not the problem but it not going in reverse makes me wonder. Reset the decoder. I think Soundtraxxs used CV 30 = 2 to reset every thing. Good Luck.

I ran the loco before on DCC with a TCS decoder. I even removed the Soundtraxx, installed the Atrean board with the TCS decoder and the engine worked fine. So then I hooked up the Soundtracxx decoder to a test track and ran the engine on it. The engine worked fine, but the sound did the same thing. It would throttle up the make a "ding" noise, go quiet and come back on at a higher rpm.
Track voltage
I know if the track voltage is either to high or to low it will cause the sound part of the decoder to over heat and have problems. Your using what for a power supply?
NYC_George
The power supply is the one that came with the Power Cab. I use a Smart Booster 3 on the rest of the layout but use the power cab power supply for my program/test track.
