Got some truck decals in and decided to start decaling a few blank trailers I had sitting around. This is an older trailer that I built quite a while back, so it is a reck! lol It needs a new Trailer Floor, New Suspension, new wheels, and new Landing Gear. All of which will be replaced.
This is an A-Line Wabash National 53' Plate Trailer with partial buttons with a Trucks N Stuff Peterbilt 389 with 70" Standup Sleeper
I was looking at a few pics of some Gordon Trucking Trailers, and while I couldnt find any pictures to show they actually have any Plate Trailers, I decided to do mine as a plate trailer to make it unique. I studied the trailer pictures, and noted that the top and bottom rails, the front corner posts and the roof are all painted silver. I also noted that the rear latch bars and hings are silver, but I left mine white as it would be pretty difficult to do these without alot of masking and some careful steady hands, which I didnt particularly feel up to doing so I didnt lol
My truck is going to have an owner/operator cab. Im simulating a trucker who has been hired by Gordon Trucking to haul freight and move their trailers, so I put the Gordon Trucking logo, MC number, and Truck Number on the cab and left the custom paint. The Gordon Trucking cabs are supposed to be light blue and the majority of the pictures I saw of the real trucks were all Kenworth trucks... Again something unique about my rig
These next pictures show all sides of the Truck and Trailer. The trailer highlighted with the silver as noted in the pictures, the safety striping along both sides of the trailer, the blue striping along both side of the trailer, and the Gordon Trucking logos on both sides of the trailer. They also show the cab decaled.
There is still ALOT of work yet to be done to this trailer. The left side of the trailer needs the decals re-done on both the GT logo and the striping. I did both the right and left side differently, the left side being done last night, the right side being done tonight. The right side came out WAY better then the left, and the decals on the right really sucked down and snuggle with the ribs of the trailer, so they will be pulled off and re-done on the left side doing them the same way as I did the right side tonight.
Trailer Floor, Trailer Suspension, Trailer Wheels, Trailer Landing Gear all need to be replaced with new parts. Mud Flaps, Spare Tire Rack, and Trailer Air Lines all need to be added. Air lines from truck to trailer and decals to the front and rear of the trailer need to be applied as well.
Parts are on their way to continue work on this truck, but in the meantime, Ill post back with the work done with the rest of the decals to the front and rear of the trailer.
Here are the pictures of the front and rear of the trailer:
I was able to get the decal of the large logo off the side of the trailer on the left side so I could re-do it, but the striping is pretty tough to get off, and I noticed I was scratching the side of the trailer so I stopped and ordered some decal remover. It will be in sometime next week, so Im pretty much done for this trailer till then.
Things remaining on the "To Do List" of this truck:
1. Re-Do the left side trailer decals
2. Replace Landing Gear and Paint Light Blue
3. Replace Trailer Suspension and Paint Wheels White
4. Add Mud Flaps
5. Paint Mud Flaps Black
6. Add Mud Flap Decals
7. Add hazard signs on all 4 sides of the trailer
8. Add Spare Tire Rack to underside of trailer
9. Add Trailer Air Lines added to rear suspension
10. Add Air Lines from Truck to Trailer
11. Apply Flat Finish to both truck and trailer to seal it all in place
.
Josh,
I like what you have been doing to this one and I think you should think about painting the back silver bars and hinges. What do you use for the brake lines that you'll install later?
Dave
Ive considered it and want to paint the rear bars and latches, but im not confident enough to attempt the masking of all those tiny molded pieces. A-LINE makes a trailer that comes pre-painted with silver paint on the ribs and rear latchs/bars, but this didnt start out as one of those.... lol
The Trailer Air Hoses are a kit that A-LINE makes. The Air Lines that will go from truck to trailer are a kit made by Stewart Models (that I have yet to get in and look at yet lol, hopefully there not too difficult to install)
I used a pencil on a container to make the lock bars of it metal color. It was better then painting it because I just ran the side pencil tip along the bar and it was metal color (can't find a photo right now).
