Hey gang,
I went to The Original Whistle Stop in Pasadena, CALIF. recently. Hadn't been there in years. A very worthwhile stop for you if visiting the area.
They have lots of brass engines...my fav was a O Scale FP45 in Santa Fe warbonnet. Fully cowled diesel behemoth...what a beauty ! There was lots of stuff to see on display. I was even surprised they had many LGB items that I would like to take home.
After seeing that brass FP45, I got out my HO Athearn blue box FP45's and gave them a tune up and have them running again, double-headed. I just love these engines, wish there was one in Large Scale....someday I am sure.
The engines are pulling Santa Fe heavyweights in dark green (from Bachmann). At first I scoffed at the professionalism of this mish-mash of eras, but then I started to think, wait, in the mid 60's, it could of actually happened...especially if there was a shortage of smoothside coaches OR a modern diesel was pulling an old-timer special for a historical society.
So as the saying goes, there is a prototype for (almost) everything!
I would take a pix and upload but I forgot to bring home my camera! Rats! stay tuned....
Btw, these Bachmann coaches in my book are excellent runners and a great value. I don't like HO Bachmann steam, but these cars win me over. They are six-axled lighted heavyweights with good paint and detail...and the best thing about them is they will navigate 19" radius easy. Walthers coaches are "nice" but they won't run on anything less than 24" radii...and they cost more than these.
Cheers,
Tom M.
