After a two day experience with cataract surgery, I can see enough to start focusing in on structures in Jamestown. The very first one to meet the eye upon entering the layout is a Bar Mills laser-cut wood structure known as Jack's Back Yard. It has far more detail parts than wooden ones, and required a lot of intricate painting. Jack's is an old fashioned "junkyard", which was still somewhat common in my locale well into the early 2000's.

Many of these details came with the kit, I provided about a dozen more, mostly along the back fence.

Please excuse all of those tiny cobwebs present in some pictures. They are/were not visible to the naked eye. These very tiny spiders invaded the layout room years ago and I haven't found a way to get rid of them yet. I have to clear them off snow plows on diesels when I don't run trains for a week or so.
Next door to Jack's is Suds Bucket, a local drinking establishment. This is a laser-cut wood kit from JL Innovative Design. The details on the back porch are a mix of theirs and mine.

Willie: I have found that those 'bug bomb spray' thingies work pretty good. Besides the spiders, it also gets bee's, fly's and other associated non-rent payers. I wait until I know ima not going to be in the train cave for a few hours in the Spring and Fall, then let them go at it. I usually use 4 of them; 2 upstairs, 2 downstairs which seems to work for my building size.

Let's move on past the spiders and explore the next structure. Across the road from Jack's is Uncle Tony's Wholesale Meat & Butcher Shop. This two-structure complex is another from Bar Mills, sold as "Four Fingered Tony's". It is my second favorite in Jamestown.

The hanging sides of beef are white metal castings which came with the kit.

The refrigeration unit comes from a Walther's kit.

The two workers and pick-up are from Woodland Scenics; all other figures are hand painted by me from Preiser.
The boxes of produce inside came with the kit and had to be folded and glued.

I don't remember where the grain sacks came from, I have had them for a while.

Next business will be LaBosky's Motorcycle Repair.

Stay tuned.

Willie- I have seen most of these structures before, but now, all together , it puts things is a better perspective.
Keep up the good work!

Time for the next installment in the town of Jamestown. Next door to Uncle Tony's Wholesale Meats, is LaBosky's Motorcycle Repair. Apparently Jamestown has a lot of bikers living there or nearby.

LaBoskey's is another laser-cut wood kit that comes from JL Innovative Design.

Some of the motorcycles are white-metal castings from JL Innovative and some are from Woodland Scenics.
On the other side of the fence is Amos Cutters General Store, another laser-cut wood kit from Bar Mills.

We now move across the road from Amos Cutters to F. Bruckner's Woodworking. They make stairs primarily for the local townspeople.

This is another laser-cut wood kit from American Model Builders. All details are from my detail cabinet. Figures are hand-painted Preiser figures.
Next door to the north is Miracle Chair Co. This is a beginner type laser-cut wood kit from Bar Mills.

Then I have another small structure also from Bar Mills. In their catalog, it is a Utility Shed, two are in the kit.

We'll visit the park next door in our next installment, which hopefully won't be as long in coming.

The tan Chevy/GMC truck in front of Uncle Tony's really adds to the scene. It adds more "action" in my opinion.
It all looks good. Thanks for sharing.

Longer than expected pause, but here's the next installment. Next to Security Locksmith to the north, is a small park alongside the main line.
IMG_0321.JPG

It's a known railfan park. Here's a pair taking pictures, partially obscured by the statue.

An aspiring guitarist busking for quarters.

Mom and kids enjoying hot dogs.
IMG_0340.JPG

Most of these figures came from two Woodland Scenics kits; the railfans are hand painted Preiser figures.
Rounding out things along the main drag is Hale Feeds, another beginner kit from Bar Mills actually known as HJ Simpson Feeds; yes, Homer Simpson.

Hulking in the background of several pictures in this series, you may have noticed Ramone's Storage & Salvage. This is a large Hydrocal structure from Downtown Deco. I'll start with it in the next installment, but here's a teaser.

I promise not to take as long for the next post.

Willie, I'm looking forward to the next post!

I understand better than many that life can get in the way of what we want to do.

Once again, it has taken me longer to make the next post in this thread than I intended. But, here it is finally.
We're moving across the railroad track to a large Hydrocal structure from Downtown Deco. I use the structure's original name, Ramone's Storage & Salvage. Despite being alongside the railroad, it is not a rail-served business.

IMG_2667.JPG
IMG_2671.JPG

Many of the details are part of the kit itself. I added all figures, vehicles, pallets and many other boxes and trash cans from my detail box. Unfortunately the roof detailing is visible only to taller visitors, but I know that it is there.
IMG_2672.JPG

Even a toy car can be made to fit into a scene.
IMG_8045.JPG

The whole scene is ripe for detailing.

Randy of Downtown Deco makes some very nice kits that are fun to personalize with paint. This is the largest one of many that I have.
