So I am the proud owner of my first Athearn genesis engine with the Tsunami decoder. Well mostly proud. Was annoyed when I did a test run and heard some odd noises coming from the front. Took it apart (broke off a few details pieces in the process) and found out a piece of the from gear assembly was missing. Luckily I had an old engine that I could grab parts from and was able to fix it. A bit disappointed since it was a brand new engine.

Anyway my main question is I have a DT100 throttle (only functions 0-8) and I haven't figured out how to get the decoder to make the engine shutdown sequence sounds. Also the minute I power on the rail the engine goes through startup and then idles.

So, if I were to have (which I don't) many of these on my layout some sitting in engine terminals. How do you get them to sit there and be quiet and only make noise when you actually intend to use them. Second when I'm done how do I park it and have it go through the shutdown sequence.

I'm using a Prodigy Advance ^2, and pushing the red 'stop' button initiates the shut-down sequence. I know of no way to power-up the system and have the engine remain silent.

Sorry to hear about your quality problems. I just received a Genesis SP Black Widow FP-7 set, and the plow had come off. It was a simple fix, but annoying nonetheless. Yours was considerably worse. Glad you got it sorted out (but you shouldn't have had to).

With the DT100, try hitting the RUN/STOP button. On the DT400 series throttles, hitting the EMER STOP button initiates the shutdown sequence.

So I pressed the run/stop button nothing happens. I believe to do an EMER stop you have to hold the button. I had the engine moving. held the run/stop button then it beeped and the engine stopped. However none of these combos with the engine idling caused it go through the sequence. I have heard it do it a few times but have no clue how I did it :)

Yeah my only other engines are older bluebox units so was looking forward to the much better quality. Oh well, once I fixed it it seems to run like a dream in comparison to my others.

Download all the manuals from the Soundtraxx website. What you need is all there. I don't use the shutdown sequence, but to use the quiet mode set CV 113 to any value (I usually use 128) and turn all the lights & functions off. If your loco does not receive any commands for 30 seconds or so, the sound will mute. It will come back on as soon as you blip the throttle or turn on the headlight. How to get it to go through both the startup & shutdown sequences is in the manual.

Beware that if you cause a short on the layout, and the layout goes down, and then comes back up, the engine will restart itself!

I would also suggest that you buy a DT402 throttle. The DT100 hasn't been made in over ten years and is no longer supported by Digitrax. These throttles used a special type of encoder, that is no longer even made. If one of those, (the knobs), goes out, you'll be dead in the water for 4-digit addresses.
