Afternoon,

My neighbor is having a yard sale this weekend and I was helping her organize the garage items. She has model trains and I told her some may be collectible and some may be older but common. Is there anything you guys see in the pictures that is special? What's a fair yard sale price guideline on the common items? Thanks ... Frank

I saw the pictures earlier after he posted guys and although most was common Marx and Lionel stuff, there was three things that piqued my interest.

One was a streamlined steamer, looked like an old Lionel. The boiler appeared to be that heavy metal that Lionel was noted 4 in the late 40's thru the 50's

The other looked like a lithographed Marx streamliner, set up like the Aerotrain, or Burlington Zephyr. Had an engine, silver with red trim and IIRC 5-6 cars, all silver with red trim. The ends of each car, fit onto the bolster of the car in front. (Each car only had a truck on one end, IOW.) This may be the rarest of the bunch, if it is Marx.

The last thing just looked out of place in this collection and it looked like an HO Athearn F-7 with 4 lightweight passenger cars, all painted in the daylight scheme.

There were some other "loose" cars and various engines in other boxes, and I couldn't tell you if any more of them were HO, but the majority was Lionel and Marx 0-27.

As to a value, I couldn't even begin to hazard a guess. My advise would be to take them, if possible, to a Lionel dealer or see if the local hobby shop, if there is one near, has knowledge of a Lionel or Marx collector in their customer base.

In fact, the "old Lionel" item was one of their Pennsy streamlined Torpedo sets from the late 1930's, although the set appeared to be somewhat incomplete. Depending on actual condition, this could bring a few bucks but it is not a rare item.

Indeed, much of the other stuff was by Marx and not particularly valuable.

The Daylight set could have been a Kusan O scale set. They looked pretty good for their time, but aren't anything I'd walk across the street to see.
