Anyone have a good recomendation for the new Athearn GP 35. We are acquiring #96011 W&LE #109. I asked Athearn and they deferred to the decoder market making no recomendation. DCC/w sound or without? Or maybe we will just convert it to a dummy?
Thanks
Wayne
Either the Digitrax DH142AT or the DH142, for a nine pin plug, will work, depending on what kind of board Athearn has installed in this engine.
I've been happy with TCS T1 (for a simple 2-function decoder).
Hey Wayne,
It might not have the Athearn Quick Plug... You made need to use a Digitrax DHAT Harness or a AH123AT decoder/harness package.
Most of the GP35's need the harness to add DCC... If you pop the shell and shoot a pic we can tell you for sure!
Athearn GP 35 decoder.
That sounds like a plan. The engine should be here shortly so I will post a picture.
Thanks
Wayne

Finally looked at the parts list but didn't pop the shell. It says install a 9 pin decoder, an 8 pin would require some soldering. Conversion instruction requires unplugging the jumper board and the plug in a 9 pin decoder. I looked a Tsunami and there directory didnt show a suitable decoder for a GP 35. Whats next?
Wayne
The Tsunami will work with any nine pin decoder, as will most other types of decoders. The issue was the older RTR Athearns didn't have a decoder harness so you had to solder a decoder to a bunch of wires. Since yours apparently has the decoder harness, you're ready to go.
