I shot these pics of an extra 600 series train on the Maple Creek Sub at the Piapot siding as they were rolling along at the permissable 25 MPH. Looks like 2 big generators headed to a power station in Calgary. More pics below!!
Here is the last pics...all I got...
Now there are some unusual details to add to a loaded car; a light generator and a Little Giant folding ladder!
Nice catch, thanx!
There'll be a schnabel car coming into winnipeg this fall, looking forward to seeing it.
What are they bringin in or outa Winterpeg?
A big transformer to the LaVérendrye Hydro sub station, just over the floodway.
It was suposed to be there last fall but the ground never froze enough. The temp track is laid and the highway has been cut in advance.
Beautiful open country it looks like up there. Great place to see giant things on trains.
Yup, in that part of the country you can railfan the same train at speed for six hours and never have to move your chair!
Dunc did you catch the reporting marks on those cars?
Oops, I found this just now. I forgot to include this one. I tried to see the reporting marks on this one, but I was taking these pics with my canon 10 MP powershot camera and its just a lil to grainey to make it out...
It appears there are at least three telescoping light arrays, somewhat extended, with generators....aimed on some of the large equipment being shipped. I wonder why they need those lights while enroute?
Mike
Probably one of two reasons. For security at night or to provide plenty of light to check clearances around trackside structures if they moved at night. I don't know if they would park this on a siding or continue operations at night. Seems to me that there would be a higher chance of damage occurring at night but nowadays construction projects go 24/7 on a lot of jobs so this may not be any different.
They needed them because in the dark its much better to be able to see restricted clearances like bridges and other trains etc...
The two big green cars would be KRLs. The yellow one is obviously QTTX.
I thought CP was on strike?
That only started near the end of last week.
Might anyone guess or know what the function of this formidable vessel would be?
From here, it looks like a steam turbine, ie, uses steam to turn the shaft of (probably a pump or compressor, possibly a generator) much the way an electric motor uses electricity to turn the shaft of an electric motor to drive things.
Yes, I was going to say it looks capable of developing, withstanding considerable amounts of pressure inside that spherical chamber. I've always been fearful about being near any kind of boiler type thing......"abandon ship Jim!......she might blow any second!"....

I got over that fear quite some time ago, when I had to go look at steam fittings rated for 4500 psig steam, and boiler valves rated 2500 psig.
At those pressures and temperatures, if there's a leak, you don't see the steam, it just cuts you in half before you know it's there.
