As seen in the picture below, a couple of my box cars couplers hit the rails in the middle of the switch tracks. I was going to file some material off, but I wanted to know why it hangs down like that anyhow; will filing some off cause any other problems?? I know I should switch to Kadees and I won't have an issue; but that is not in the near future.

just trim the bottoms off. Some, like me, do the same thing with kadees that have the metal hoses hanging down to far.
Those points stick down to be used on an uncoupling track. They dont work well in my experience and if you arent using uncouplers they can be snipped off.
Sure kadee is better but not required. I am switching all of mine and it takes time and money.
Good Luck
Quality control on those horn hook couplers is less than top notch so some may be a bit warped. You should check the coupler pockets though -the one on the right looks loose. That being said, just get some nippers and cut all the pins off. They are worthless anyway and your trains will look a little better.
The bottom ends of those couplers were made to be used with an uncoupling ramp. In my experience it was more of a derailing ramp. Just trim those bottom pieces off. Believe me, you'll never miss them.
Thanks guys for the advice....I need all I can get!!!
