I am relatively new to HO scale, but have been an O scale train guy for many years. My question is I have an older HO layout that was given to me by a friend and it is a DC powered layout. I assume that I cannot run any DCC equipped locomotives on a DC layout? My next question is, how difficult is it to convert a DC layout to a DCC layout? My last question is about the picture below, what can I do with this power set up besides running trains?

Thanks for your help.

If the DCC equipped locomotives have decoders on board that allow for DC operation, and have that option enabled, then you can run them on DC. If not, you can risk burning out the decoder.

If the layout is seperated into blocks, that would be great for DCC. Even if it is not, you can simply replace the power pack with the DCC command station and add feeders every few feet or so. If the layout is blocked, you can put a booster on each block, so that when you have a short, the whole layout doesn't shut down.
