Hi so inwas wanting to put a smoke unit in my rivarossi mallet and was wondering what companys make a smoke unit for it? tia.
Your model would have to have the wiring to turn a smoke unit on and off. Being DCC would make it much easier to control it as well.
There are smoke unit inserts that I used on my Trix Big Boy that I bought back in 2000. I don't recall the names of them but the model already had the bronze contact points inside the body for the smoke inserts to sit on

Don’t do it. You will melt the boiler.
This is for a DCC ready Hornby steamer, but the principle is the same.
Yea i was going to make it dcc and add a can motor which one would be best?

Both probably, depends on your experience in re-motoring a loco, if you've not done this before convert to DCC first, you can always re-motor later if you feel the need, I find most DC motors usually run better after the conversion to DCC.
Word of caution, don't let your enthusiasm get the better of you, it can, and usually does, lead to expensive mistakes
