Using the NCE PowerCab, I have 2 MRC 1811 decoders installed in my 2 N scale Atlas U-23B's. I had an audio issue with one which I straightened out, but in the process of troubleshooting I found I could not reset them (CV 125 to value 1), when I selected CV 125 it said it couldn't read it, tried to set value to 1 but the decoder wouldn't reset (still responded to it's 4 digit address). I also discovered that I couldn't program on the main with either of them, but I can with my Athearn Challenger, anyone have any insight?
yeah, MRC decoders are junk
I already knew that, but they were all that was available for these locos. I've already decided I'm going to be purchasing future locos only after determining I can use one of the more reliable brands of decoders in them.
I though decoders were interchangeable. NMRA standards and all that.
Don't know, maybe it's the only one with U23B sound? I contacted Tony's Trains and they said the MRC was the only one available. I emailed MRC support and they said only CV's 1 and 29 get reset when you reset the decoder so I guess it's not a full reset, seems kind of silly.
