Going to get this thread going here by opening it with just some lengthy writing for now. I dont have any new pictures, but thats just because I am in the beginning stages of building a new module workbench to build this diorama on.

Some of you may remember my CAT Equipment Rental Module layout thread. I tore that down and started construction on a new layout using the Equipment dealer as well as a High-Rise Construction site with the massive Kibri Crane. The more I thought about it, the more I wanted to center this whole module around the High-Rise Construction site and not draw attention away from it by having the Equipment Dealer/Yard. Instead I will be building this entire module centered around the new High-Rise Construction site and the quickly developing area surrounding it. Below is the basics of what the module will consist of. Keep in mind that this will be an on-going lengthy project as i dont have the time I used too to dedicate to the hobby anymore with my new job  lol

Layout Benchwork

I will be building a new module for this project. Lightweight construction made from 3/4" Oak Plywood Strips with a 2" Foam Base glued ontop. Module dimensions will measure 6' long x 30" wide. 4 folding legs will be mounted on each corner of the module to allow for a free-standing display module. The folding legs will be very short (about 29" tall). This is to both make it easy to work on the module while sitting down in a chair and so that when the module is in free-standing mode the module will not be over-powering if you will because of the very tall High-Rise Structures and the massive 33" Tall Crane. Im thinking about using Card Game Folding Table Legs. Anyone else suggest a good folding leg system that they use or that would work well?

Diorama Layout

On the far right of the module will be an angled 4 lane road which runs from the front of the module to the back corner of the module with a single track mainline (red line). The bottom road is a older road that is being widened to allow for more traffic from what will be a huge new hotel to a rapidly growing city. The yellow portion of the road will be under construction complete with a Cold Planner scraping a layer of old asphalt up and a paver not too far behind it laying down a fresh new layer of black-top. The Black Square is a bridge that spans the river (blue) The Purple rectangle will be the spot where the bridge is being widened and under construction, the perfect spot for some crane action and a pile driver.

The Pink Square in the upper left part of the module is where a small pink house will sit, grandmas house with a her family throwing a birthday party for one of her young grandchildren.

The white border is the High-Rise Construction Site Fencing. The whole area will be a typical construction organized pigsty with materials and equipment for the job site scattered everywhere with narrow job-site roads and alleys. The long rectangle blue box is the massive 33" Kibri Crane that will be hoisting a section of newly poured Elevator/Stairwell Shaft in place on the right Tower. The right tower will be smaller the left tower. The left tower will be more complicated construction wise and have angles unlike the mostly square appearance of the right tower. It will take up about twice the footprint of the right tower. The small blue square is a Tower Crane that serves both the left and right towers during construction, growing taller as needed.

This is just a basic overview of the diorama (you can see it attached to this reply below). Other details like detailed grade crossing (including signal gates) and a track signal light with a relay box could be placed around the area where the track crosses the street. Trees, rocks, bushes, water... will surround the river area. Some other details like a roadside billboard could be used on the far right side of the module where there is empty space.

Now assuming that work lets me and doesnt get in the way of building the module benchwork, I hope to have some pictures for you guys in a week or two. But now that I have teased you guys a little with nothing but typing and no pictures, Im off to bed, 5:30AM seems to always come way to quick! :o

Well I figured I would post these, just so you guys have SOMETHING to look at in the meantime :D. These are shots of the 2nd time around I started this project right before I decided I wanted to yet again change the plans and remove the CAT Equipment Rental Yard... These dont show the crane with its load but at least its something for now right?

Lookin good Josh!
Now that you've shown us this you're committed, no turning back...
(love that bill board too!)

Looks good Josh. I've wanted to do something similar for years but no room on the layout for it.

Thanks guys! :D

Sadly, I still have not been able to get started on the new module frame. To add to the delay, I may be re-building and selling my Ford Auto Module to a company that is interested on putting it on display in their showroom. Kinda odd since they are in the Asphalt/Resurfacing/Sealing business, not sure why they want a Auto Industry display but who am I to ask questions? :D LOL The challenge will be finding the kits again so I can build another for myself after i sell this one. The Auto Module is one of my favorite ones ive done so far, so it will be a must that I at least get the kits again so I can build another one similar sometime in the future... Im thinking this High-Rise Construction Site Module is going to be by-far the best and most favorite one that I will have done so far, at least if everything i have planned for it works out like I plan
