Boxcar rebuild

This was possibly an old Silver Streak kit someone built by another fellow long ago. When I got it, it had no underframe so I spliced in an Athearn plastic one and cleaned up the sides - modernized with Tichy train doors and new roofwalk. The B end got new brake wheel parts and ladders plus the missing grabirons. It came with some nice Kadee trucks.

So it represents something built in the 1920s as a double sheathed woodside boxcar with modernized (c. 1940) steel ends and doors. The white stripe was a SP way to indicate Evans automobile racks inside.

Looks great Charles!

Nice to see you bring the old girl back to life!

Restoring old stuff is one of my favorite parts of the hobby.

Thanks for sharing your work!

I used to love coming home from the swap meets with basket case projects and making jewels out of them. The old craftsman kits were the best. So many possibilities. Nice work.
