BNSF 9-44CW Heritage paint scheme options?

tomustang

I'm Blunt..
I have two 9-44CW shells and would like to paint them in BNSF heritage colors, the only problem is there's hundreds of conflicting info on the web from misrepresented photos and such.

I would like to do the heritage III scheme (orange/black) but don't know if this was on a 9-44 or not, if their is, is there decals for it?

Did any of the 9-44 heritage II's have orange/black or are they all that dark green color?

Tom, I did some looking around the web. The only C44-9W's that I saw in the BNSF Heritage III paint scheme were models. I can't find any real ones painted in the Heritage III yet. You could use the Micro-Scale ES44 decal set and modify it to work on a C44-9 if you wanted. They are very close is shape and size (might need 2 sets for the stripes).

Rough looking around isnt it?

With even more searching Ive tracked one down by the road number, BNSF 4596

There's several (30+) Dash 9's in New Image (there is now H3, the scheme was designed to take a step away from heritage) paint.

Athearn makes several so far, and all are correct (Dash 9 wise).

So far I got the shells painted orange

but this project's been put on hold for a while, for now I'm going to look into the ES44DC decals, I'll have to physically look at them for the striped since I don't want to buy 4 decal sets ($26) for just 2 shells in which I paid $25 for the RPP shell/chassis and Athearn locomotive

Little update, the es44 decals are for the dash 9 also, I did need more stripe as what Jerome said. Progress will come shortly...

Outstanding! You must have the patience of Job! I sure like the BNSF paint schemes better than that green, black and white job the BN used since 1969! What I'd really like to see the prototype do, just for grins, is paint one up in gray over black with the red and yellow stripes like the C.B. & Q. SD/GP-7/9's. Doubt it will ever happen, of course. Costs too much to paint one of them giants!

That looks very good, are you going to number the second one, close to the first ?. I do like that colour scheme, even though I model Norfolk Southern, I,d like one of those on my layout.

Thanks guys, the next number might be 21 to keep them close.

Mike, I don't know about the painting part I just know how to cover up the mistakes good :D

One is a RPP shell and the other is athearn bb, they are slightly different from eachother
