Hello All
My main line includes a 2% grade, followed by a 10 inch trestle, followed by a 2% grade down. Will the Broadway Limited Big Boy be able to travel this? The engine is 12 inches long and the tender is another 6.

Thanks

About 15. What I was wondering is if the wheels on the front would stay on the track at the top since the engine is so long.

How suddenly did you go into your grade. Does it go from flat to 2% grade in a few inches or does it gradually go into it? It could work on some track and not on others. If it does that going up it could also hit something going down. I have only worked with steamers a few time and never had any expirence with big boys so I will let someone chime in and help if i can. If you could a picture is really worth a thousand word when it comes to model railroading. If it is like this one http://www.modelrailroadforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=8786 and the front wheels drop down it should shorten your wheelbase but it still COULD scrap cowcatcher or something. Sorry in know this was confusing hopefully this helped a little.

Just thought of something and dont know if it will work but i would tape a ruler to the side of a piece of rolling a see if it clears

Hi
I'm using a woodland scenics 2% grade kit. It's only rising an inch and a half, then leveling off to go over the 10 inch trestle, then going back down. I'm not worried about it scraping on anything but I am curious if there is enough play to prevent the wheels leaving the track and derailing. Since the engine is 12 inches long there would be an instant that the very front might be on the begining of the drop while the back is finishing the rise. Hope I worded that right.
I don't have a big boy at the moment. I'm deciding on whether or not to pick one up but will opt for something else if this will cause a problem.

Thanks
