12 years ago, when I last purchased large supplies of hookup wire, switches and related supplies, a great supplier for quantities was MCM Hardware of Riverhead, NY.

I can't find a website for it, although I see its name in commercial business links. Does anyone know if MCM still is in the model railroad electrical-supply business, and have a website for it? And/or recommendation(s) for alternative suppliers?

Thanks for your help.

Many thanks for responding. It's hard to know what has happened in a dozen years in this business. When I last did business in 1999, MCM HARDWARD was a small, family-owned business in Riverhead, N.Y., that has a specialty in model-railroader supplies - indeed, at that time they had a 20-page catalog chock full of every bulb, connector, wire and switch that any model railroader could dream of. The company you located, MCM ELECTRONICS is part of a large, Cleveland-Ohio based holding company and my very quick perusal of their web site didn't turn up much in the way of model-railroader supplies with the possible exception of those who work at the very high-tech end of operations based on electronics.

RexHea,

Thanks for taking time to look up the link on YelBot. I had, indeed, found that earlier, and called the listed phone number which turned out to no longer be for MCM Hardware but for the answering machine to a private residence. I left a message, but at the time I posted my thread, had received no response.

This afternoon, I did get a return call from the individual who turned out to be the former owner of MCM Hardware. As I suspected, MCM Hardware is no longer in business. However, the owner told me that for model railroad electrical supplies he now recommended a business called DIGI-KEY. I briefly looked it up on line >www.digi-key.com< and it appears to be a very extensive supplier of electrical/electronic supplies. Haven't yet attempted to use its website.

In the meantime, if anyone has favorite suppliers of wire, switches and other model-railroad compatible electrical supplies, I invite them to respond.

Bill, I have used Digi-key several times and know many MR's that use them as well. No problems with them and are probably as good as any ;).
