I was curious about the fact that Bachman On30 offers two different Forney models relating to DCC hook-up's, that is, one sells for about $159.00 that says it's ready for the speed and lighting decoder and another for $259.00 that says it's ready or has the sound decoder.

So does that mean that the Loco for $159.00 doesn't have the hook-up for a sound decoder at a later time?

Any locomotive that has a DCC plug can be adapted for a combination DCC with sound decoder. Sometimes it's easy and sometimes it's a major project but it can all be done. It sounds like the $259 model already has the sound and DCC decoder installed. All other things being equal, including the thickness of my wallet, I'd pay the extra money for one that already had sound on-board, especially with steam, which often entails fun things like mounting the speaker somewhere in the coal bin and running lots of wires around the inside of the engine.

Say Jim,
Thanks for your info, thats what I was thinking too that it didn't seem logical for them to make two versions, as far as DCC hook-up went, of the same loco but felt I'd better ask. Actually this question is in reference to a friends
interest.
