Hey everyone,

My niece's birthday is just around the corner and she has been asking for a Train for awhile now after running some of mine around. I took her down to my local train shop and she was dead set on the Bachmann McKinley Explorer. So this is what my fiancee and I have decided to get her but I have a question or two about the set.

(note, this is the older version with 4 passenger cars that she would be getting. the new version has 3 passenger cars)

I run DCC on my setup(i say setup because i have yet to make a dedicated layout. One is in the works however!). I use the Bachmann EZ Command DCC unit as it does everything I require / want to do. My question is this, it is capable of running 1 DC locomotive on the number 10 slot. Will the Mckinley Explorer locomotive need to have a DCC Ready board installed with the jumper plug to run in DC on the 10th slot? Or will it run as is on my setup?

I know the cons to running DC locos on a DCC system, noise, heat issues, etc. It will not be permanently run on my setup, just occasionally.

The EZ-Command throttle can run one DC loco on the F10 button. If you so desire you can connect a Bachmann power pack, such as the one that comes with the trainset, to the EZ-Command and use the pack throttle to run the DC engine. This also lets you use the F10 button for another DCC loco with the address of 10. Ditch the black roadbed track (steel track) and get track with the gray roadbed (nickle silver).

Good to know info on the controller(s)! As for the track, she'll be fine with the steel track. The train will probley see very very little use from her to be honest and this set will more then likely end up with me in a few months anyways lol :)
