Not sure where I should put this post, so I will try here...

The Atlas standard turnouts, does anyone know if the little plastic covering the coil can be removed so one can solder on a new wire?

are you talking about the powered turnouts with the powered unit that runs beside the switch? If so, I think they come apart, I know the manual ones, which are basically the same housing just without the mechanicals inside comes apart readily.

There are at least two varieties of coils used on these turnouts. One is attached to the turnout with screws on the top of the mechanism, the other has a small clip on the end where the wires come out of the motor.

On the one with the clip, removing the clip allows the top of the motor to come off, exposing the coil.

On the other one, I don't remember if removing the screws also releases the cover. I do seem to remember that you could get to the coils on both machines.

Both machines I mentioned may not be Atlas. One may be a different brand, although they both look identical.

Hope that helps a little bit. Sorry I don't have more info.

Darrell, quiet...for now

I think the ones with the little screws are the #6 turnouts, the ones without are the Atlas standard turnouts that come with a section of 19" raduis curve in the package.

I guess I will just see if I can get the top of in order to solder a new wire on the coil, thanks for the info...
