on a yahoo group someone explained that Atlas years ago bought a alot of the sw1500's to include in a atlas trainset. The trainset never materialized. While cleaning out a storage room they found all these athearn loco's. They called Horizon to ask if it was ok to blow them out, horizon said ok. So now atlas is blowing them out. I'de love to get some but me and the wife are literally broke till next month.

I just ordered 3 and got free shipping! My steel mill needs more switchers. I guess at that price they must be BlueBox models, ya think?

Ordered 10 of the SP version, will see if there are any left buy the time they get around to my order.

I knew I should have put my money in checking and not the savings account.

I guess you live and learn.

Great deal though.

N scale AT&SF RR
"Super Chief"

Re-live some great moments in history in miniature with Kato's "Super Chief". This is another exciting "Classic Train" from Kato packaged nicely into an eight car set. The "Super Chief" was one of the named passenger trains of the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway. It was the only all Pullman train to operate on the Santa Fe main line between Chicago and Los Angeles and operated typically with 12 cars. An additional 4 car set is available to add to this set so the entire 12 car train can be modeled.

The train was usually pulled by an F7A-B-B-A combination with our models time period being 1956 to 1958.

We selected the most popular time period of 1956 - 1958 when this train was operated and promoted and advertised by the AT&SF RR as its premier all Pullman train between Chicago and Los Angeles.

In January 1958, the all coach "El Capitan" and the "Super Chief" were consolidated but during the high traffic periods (Christmas and summer months), the "Super Chief" ran separate from the "El Capitan".

You will now have the opportunity to operate the "Super Chief" and also the "El Capitan" with all the correct cars. You can even combine the two trains and run as one just like the Santa Fe did in real life. The train can also be operated with 5 locomotives as F7A-A-B-B-A.

The "Super Chief" passenger train consists of:
106-074
8 Car set: (1) baggage and express #3466; (1) RPO #82; (1) ACF 10-6 sleeper "Palm Star";
(1) pleasure dome #503; (1) diner #600; (1) Dormitory lounge #1342; (1) ACF 4-4-2 sleeper "Regal Arms"; (1) sleeper-lounge-observation "Vista Heights" with tail light and drumhead.
106-6003
4 Car set: (2) ACF 10-6 sleepers "Palm Haven" and "Palm Top"; (2) ACF 4-4-2 sleepers
"Regal Gate" and "Regal Hunt"

I ordered 3 BN units. Plan is to patch them out with BNSF. This is the first time I have ordered something from Atlas. Do they send you some sort of order comformation email?

What? Blasphemer! :p

Thanx Josh, wow that's alot of goodies!

Its really the only way I can keep my roster up to date. If there were some still in existence that retained all BN paint. I would be all over it, but I model modern era BNSF and CNW (as it would have stood today).

LOL, you can tell Rico like the original BN. I looked at the stock tonight and they are down to only a few, Conrail and BN. I was out of the loop or I would have picked up some of the SP units. These are the standard Athearn BB units so you'll have some wiring to do for DCC and a fair amount of details to add if you want to bring it up to modern standards. Stil, at $20 a pop with free shipping on three, it's a heck of a deal. The SW-1500's are some of sweetest running of all the Athearn BB engines and the molded on detail is superb.

Chevelle there are still a few around in green, hidden away in smaller yards.
Yeah Jim, guess my "true colors" are showing!

Well I'm sure everyone just got the latest from Atlas, Canadian wide cab GP40's and Gensets to boot!
They also announced a shay in N scale, might have to grab one of those as well.

I just placed my order for 3 CR sw 1500. Now I need to research some detail parts to upgrade these to have them better looking. Anyone have any resources that will help in the search for upgrade parts would be great.
Dave
