HI folks, I am a guy who likes to build 1/87 semi trucks. I was told that Athern does not make those Kenworth #1560 kits anymore. I did find a place that sold boxes of six a couple of years ago, only memory does not remember where I got them. does anyone have any they'd be willing to sell, or can tell me where I can obtain any of these old KenWorth kits? They sold them undecorated, or painted, and also sold two types of cabovers, a day cab, and one with a sleeper. I"d like to get any I can find for a project I have.

Thank for listening

Brian,
Sorry I can't help with the tractors, but thought you and others might like an interesting tidbit. The trailers that Athearn has marked "Freuhoff" were labelled correctly, insofar as they did sell such trailers under their own label. But the ones with the three vertical ribs spaced closer together over the kingpin for the 5th wheel than the other ribs, were designed, built and sold by the Strick Trailer Co., of Philidelphia and Chicago. Strick was sold to Freuhoff by the family, and later bought back by some of the family! I re-labelled a couple of the trailers with the Strick logo in the blue oval. The logo was taken from a business card, and reduced on a color copier...a bunch of times to get it shrunk down enough to look right. IIRC, Athearn also put out some trailers labelled "Strick Lease", but I believe that came sometime later.

Just thought you might like to know. (And, no, I never worked for either company!)

trailrider, thanks for the help with the trailers. I have far to many reefers and box trailers as it is. I like to build the heavy haul types of Low Boy trailers like I used to drive for a living. Most are scratchbuilt as there are few if any available commercially. I also model a lot of the resin cabs available. I do appreciate your comments. I'll probably have to cast my own kits in resin I guess. I've saved one kenworth kit for just that purpose in case I don't find any kits. Thanks again sir, Nice to know about the trailers.

Yep, swap meets and train shows and you'll probably find a lot of what your looking for. At the Timonium show I've been going to since I moved to the metro DC area, I've found they have TONs and TONs of blue box stuff and I expect many other large train shows would be the same. Watch for a large show coming to a major city near you and go on a treasure hunt, I expect you'll find some of what your looking for.
