I'm getting the Athearn Veranda Turbine on Friday. Then I'm sending it to Mark (our resident installer here) to install DCC/Sound/LEDs.

I want to run this locomotive with passenger cars (Walthers UP Pullman Streamliner). Has the Veranda ever been used for passenger service?

If not, what about a museum excursion train? Which would justify it on my modern era layout.

Thoughts?

I believe it was freight only, and since there are no more operational I doubt any museum runs have been made, certainly not in my memory.

I think you should run it as a museum excursion just like you want to without any apologies...You are the King of your layout and it is good to be King.

since its a hobby and you own the model, run it with whatever you want. Who cares if people dont like it and say it never happened. Anything is possible in the model railroad world.

I've built locomotives that were probably never even thought of and will run them with passenger cars painted in fallen flag schemes. I dont care what anyone will say. Its fun to imagine what might have been.

Ive been curious about that locomotive. Id never be able to justify it for my future layout unfortunately. When you get a chance, would you mind posting a quick review of it?

Thanks guys, I guess I'll have a museum excursion train running on my layout soon. :p

I'll post some pics and reviews once I get it back from Mark. It should sound sweet with that Turbine running with TWO 2.1" speakers!! (Yes 2) ;)

Better wear ear plugs :D

Flyboy- I knew those tenders looked familar for some reason, and now i know, thanks!

I really like my turbine after I did the sound and light upgrade. It is loud though. Kinda light in the loafers for me but I like to haul 100+ car trains. I ran 238 or so on the club a few weeks ago. But back to the turbine, maybe 40 cars on fllat, 20-30 on our incllines. I enjoy it but find myself turning the sound off after a few minutes.

That's cool. What decoder did you put in it?

I used the QSI from Ulrich Models. It's a drop in deal. The light upgrade kit is my favorite though. Also from Ulrich. I am thinking of picking up another one and putting soundtraxx in it. Then I will sell the one I that I like the least.

Ya I'm getting the QSI also. I'm not getting the LED upgrade kit from Ulrich, but rather having Mark install the LEDs for me.
