Im super stoked. I finally went and bought new track today. Got 2 #4 turnouts, 1 right and 1 left, 1 6pk of 22" turns, and 3 sections of flex track. All atlas. Oh and 1 pack of track spikes, and these pretty nice looking bumpers.
I went downstairs grabbed the really really old tyco powerpack with the wires still attached to it and the power track. Attached a new track connector and hooked up a piece of flex track. Put on the athearn GE dash 9 demo and moved the throttle and it moved!!! So i started putting all my engines on it. I was so afraid the Athearn FP45 and old style tunnel motor wouldn't run. But they did, better then i thought. Just didn't like how they kinda kept rolling once power was turned off. The new athearn tunnel motors worked great and the kato sd80mac was awesome too. But after seeing that one work i now need to switch to LED's!! The color and brightness was alot better then the old incandesent bulbs. Plus i also need to add decoders to the older stuff so i can get the directional lighting that the newer stuff has.

So now all i need to do is, 1. Get decoders for older stuff 2. Get DCC. Thinking NCE. 3. Get the old 4x8 table out(forgot how big 4x8 actually looks) 4. layout newly purchased track and have fun!!

Awsome, congratulations!
Nice thing about NCE is you don't need to fiddle around with resisters for the lights. You'll love DCC, especially running two trains in the opposite direction.
I have locos from Kato, BLI, Atlas, etc. but I still run my old four axle "blue box" Athearns just as much!
