55 Gallon Drums

I had two of the Corvair's My first wife had one when we married YELLOW and I had just bought a MARRON one.
We drove them for years - I never noticed any "unsafe" handling - I just never drove faster than the limits!
My folks had a '61 wagon. I had a 66 convertible. I think most of the safety hoopla was primarily in Ralph Nader's mind. Early models did have an issue with a sway bar that wasn't up to snuff but that got fixed quickly. I never had unsafe handling issues with mine and I drove it as a teenager. It was my first car.

Ralph Nader was rightly criticized for his comments, but it pretty much did in the unique auto's sales. The issue was with the swing axel design which was shared by the VW Bug and an army jeep of the era. Both of which could exhibit unpleasant consequences if mis handled. In the name of consumer protection everyone will require a permit and just need to leave home....

I work for Shell Oil Corp. All55 gal drums on my layout have to be red with yellow lids.😆

Old thread, I know but this renewed my interest. I've got cast metal barrels that I love, but these chinese barrel top are more detailed. I'm 3d printing some now...

OOPS, the 3d files need some work...

I designed and 3D resin printed a bunch- I think it was 48 per run. Simple to do, actually (assuming you have a printer). Painted a bunch of different colors and patterns.
