If you are going with DCC, a simple ammeter will not work in the track feed wires. Go with this.. .

I've converted many BB locos to DCC. Never bothered to check current draw or read the decoder spec's. They are all working still.

I'm guessing this is not the best forum for larger scales ;)

SDH167D is fairly new. Will your command station be able to program it?

My steam locos are from the '60's. All DCC now... Mantua and Varney, and still running.

Do not buy it. That drive is antiquated and sloppy.

Double check your wiring...
