40' x 8' x 8' shipping container layout

ModelRailroadForums.com is a free Model Railroad Discussion Forum and photo gallery. We cover all scales and sizes of model railroads. I completed the new backdrop, it is rather plain (by design) but covers the insulation and does not have the wrinkles the last one did. The previous one was more dramatic

I start out by unrolling a section of Kraft paper on the floor of our small shipping container. no wind in here, last time i did it outside. Maybe that is why it was more dramatic:

I used rattle cans of spray paint, spray from the previous section will help these transition together. I have to a total of about 90', the shipping container is 40' long, but the ends are rounded

like I said, super simple. A few clouds and some hills. Background for the railroad is all

Just a few clouds and the sky. Will be doing a little more artwork along the edge, as well as some blending, spiff up the clouds a bit, but the heavy lifting is done.

Thanks for looking, Dave LASM

That backdrop looks great. What is the darker blue you used for the sky? I’m going to start playing with my backdrop colors before we head off on the travels in May. After all these years mine seem to light

Thanks Tom -- The darker blue is called "brilliant blue", purchased at Ace hardware, and is the 2x paint plus primer product. The lighter blue was called "aqua blue" and was purchased from the same selection at Ace.

Over the last few days I landscaped some of the cutover ground on the layout:

Here I am staging the stumps and trying to picture the scene

It is a nice size area between a couple streams, there will be a couple scenes where homesteaders are clearing for their vegetable areas:

above - you can see the farthest area is underway and my supplies

Here is a ground level shot of the scene as it will stand for now, eventually a couple dwellings will go into place

This one shows the river and bridge:

Dave, everything looks great!

One constructive comment and I apologize if I'm out of line.... The bridge needs some sort of dark wash. It looks too new compared to the rest of the scene....unless that was what you wanted. Not criticizing. It's an amazing build.
