Those cranes w/all of the towers, jibs, etc. are very delicate. I have 4 of the trucks for those tall cranes. The rigging alone is a nightmare. I've always wanted one myself, but couldn't see the money they get for them. Most of the time you can buy them a lot cheaper than what EBay gets for them from a hobby shop or on-line from a distributor.
I'm sure someone here on the forum has a favorite shop for these cranes.
I was at a train show last weekend & I saw 1 of those cranes set up. A guy touched the jib that was at a 45 degree angle & the whole crane fell over. I told the guy that owned it he should glue it down to the table-top so no one could topple it. he wanted $350.00 for it & it was a little beat up from being toppled many times. I have a bunch of crane parts, truck base & tons of string wrapped around crane spools that use to be 1 of those giant cranes that had been in a box in a shed for many years that had something heavy stacked on it. PM me if you are interested in owning this pile of booms, etc.
Several of the cranes on the Ebay page you highlighted are 1/50 scale. I took your initial search and added 1/87 scale and the whittled it down to nine items. Of the nine, all were high rise construction cranes. Are you looking for a harbor crane or construction crane? I have included a photo of a harbor crane from DHS Diecast and made by NZG at about 235.00 and the other Liebherr at the same price. They have a large selection of HO 1/87 scale cranes along with several other scales. Unfortunately, delicate and detailed cost.
There was a R/C construction crane at the Palmetto train show in feb. that I would have loved to have. It was made tough, to w/stand a lot of use, but the price was way out of my reach. It was a used unit for $1,450.00. It had a magnet, clamshell & operating hook that could do precise work. The dealer told me that they had that thing in every train show for the past 2 years w/no-one w/deep enough pockets.
Yeah, I just did a genaric search. So you guys could an idea of what I was after.
My plan is to have a Crane and rigging company on my layout with a few nice cranes setup as the "eye" grabber. I would have some "cheaper" ones placed in and around.
I could also use them for a construction of a bridge. Hoisting up a grain elavator ETC.
I know that I should stick with 1/87.

do you have any pic of the cranes? Do you have them on your layout or seperate?
