Good Morning All. Clear and 38° here. Around the corner, the Weather Underground station has not yet fixed their equipment.

Gradual warming trend here up into the lower 80's for a few days starting this weekend.

While the forum doesn't seem up to it's normal speed yet, it hasn't locked up on me yet this morning. Bob seems to have worked out some bugs, but the big shutdown and work on the planned changes should improve things soon. Still having trouble with y'all's pictures though

Since I didn't need to mow yesterday, I kept busy outside with some more tree pruning of branches hanging low enough to swat me when I mowed under them.

It's Thursday and time for the weekly grocery trek today. That will take up all of the morning. I would start earlier, but my wife won't leave until 0930.

Yesterday out in the train shed, I skipped around on a few projects. After a bit of painting, I moved the figures off the workbench and decaled a couple of MOW vehicles. However the forum is currently not letting me post those pictures, or the freight car that I decaled with graffiti. I don't have the time to go into the files and resize them, or the pictures of the completed maintenance shed with it's weathered metal roof. I'm not sure why it let me post the screen shot above??? I'll try this afternoon.

Louis - I'm not too sure that they give him access to the button! Not sure that the last POTUS had access either after the first year.
Troy - Regarding Joe Lieberman. Sad to see him go. Let's see, 82 years old, named Joe, ex-Senator, former VP candidate; maybe someone else should pay attention.
Patrick - Best of luck with the other knee. You may remember that my wife had both done, and one of them redone. Seems OK now except one leg is a tad crooked.

Everyone have a great day.

Good morning to all! A beautifully clear sky outside my windows in the studio! Worst night in years trying to sleep, so let’s do something stupid! I went to the weathering bench at 2am and stayed till 4 and still was wide awake. I did my own stuff as I’d be afraid to look at a commission job this morning. But, I have looked and my stuff looks good. No clue why as I hit the pillow within the normal times at 12:05am, zonked out immediately and at 12:45 was wide awake. I did catch some pillow time on my chair at around 4:50 till 7:20.

Terry and I normally find a breakfast/brunch place on Thursday’s before noon. Because we are going with the daughter’s family and the SIL’s dad to brunch on Easter we will do dinner out tonight. Yes, living dangerously

A rather intense discussion continued yesterday as to where we are going 5/1 after the house closing. I’m moving my trains into the office and thought that was our agreement. Seems I was not listening (her words). When I asked if I could record yesterday’s conversation she said, “sure go ahead but if you get antsy again, don’t come looking to me”. She was not smiling when she said it, then of course I made it worst. “You get antsy too”! I really do know better then that…

So, I will be accused of not listening again. We have 2 places we can go that we already own with minimal remodeling. I don’t want to travel for 2-4 months before one of the 2 spec houses we are building would be ready. I don’t want to finish the house, put it up for sale and move again! Besides, when we designed the house, neither of them was designed for us. That’s the part I’m accused of not listening about…

It will work out

enjoy the day

Good afternoon all. Sunshine and showers today.
Keep the coffee coming please, Flo.

Friend of Dawn's is visiting this afternoon. Keeping the kettle hot.

Having a divorce on my "record", i'm probably not the best at giving any relationship advice...but i have the house. We purchased my house after looking for houses together, but i was the one who picked the house, she didn't like it, kids didn't like it (her kids), my dad didn't like it...Well i was the one doing 99% work on the house, especially heavy work; stones, concrete etc... Now i live in it, it's peacefull, it's away from city and high traffic area. I have place for my trains and scratchbuilding. In the morning i go out on the deck when still dark, field in the back with forest pass that, forest on the other side of the street in front of the house. One thing i learned, if i'm the head of the household, then the house has to fit my criteria. I'm glad i listened to myself on that.

Can you elaborate a little on that "Cabriolet" steam locomotive on the last shot? Is this based on real machine?

It is not based on an actual locomotive. During the 1870s/1900 a lot of locomotives were like that. They were open to the elements. In bad weather the rolled tarpaulin would open out and give 'some protection'. I simply cut away the cab and applied a piece of rolled black paper for the tarpaulin. I have done various cut back cabs on other locomotives. Just something different.
Later I shall show the ones I did.

G'day!

Another spate of fotos to enjoy. Your attention to detail is remarkable.

agree about the recent uptick in driver stoopidity. Up my way, there has been a major increase in wrong way drivers on US Highway Ten(4-lane divided highway with at-grade intersections).
They've been saying that there has been an uptick in wrong way drivers here in Utah as well I was reading the other day after a crash. Happening a lot.

In German the word is "Geistfahrer" which means "Ghost Driver". Very apt.

Politico should have simply captioned without reference to being a hyphenated American.

Never met the man but would have liked to.
We hold divergent political views; but I respected his.
Four years younger than me but far, far more impactful in so many ways.
If one looked up the definition of "statesman" in the dictionary, his name should appear.

RIP Senator Lieberman - your legacy will be hard to match; especially with today's crop of "leaders."

Thank you Tom. A fun layout that helps me to use my right hand more. Got to get the painting right. Too many errors.

Searching the history of the line is great fun as well. Finding little snippets I can add to the layout.

Two days ago I read the L&YR had only 19 gunpowder vans. I have two of them. :D I had to have a North British one as well. :D

I met a guy from Rugby (UK) and we became "fast friends" - traveling the rails, hoisting more-than-a-few in pubs here 'n there - his introduction to rail museums for me - and visiting each other's homes (wives became friends as well). If not for him and his knowledge of railways in the U.K., I would have never have gotten to the appreciation-level I hold to this day. Great rail history and so much more!

Nice looking vans . . . got me got me to thinking about today's world-environment and how "enticing" they would assuredly be to those with less than honorable motivations.

Anyway, nice work!

I believe the bridge was part of a federal highway???
You are correct sir! Interstate 695. One of three paths across or under the Patapsco River. The Key Bridge was the only bridge. The other two are tunnels, the Fort McHenry Tunnel - Interstate 95. The Harbor Tunnel - Interstate 895.

Both Tunnels were stop and go all morning on the south bound side, the north bound side was much slower than usual. We now have a bottle neck in the northeast corridor.

I feel bad for the truck drivers, any truck with a Hazmat load must take a thirty-mile detour, they are not permitted in either tunnel.

Good morning, all! A beautiful day, sunny with temperatures predicted to be in the low 70's. If I had a convertible, the top would definitely be down. Awaiting a call from the dog groomer to pick up my little buddy. I intend to try and mow the back yard this afternoon. Maybe a train or two after that.

Pilots and tugs - My experience with pilots and tugs goes back aways and may be somewhat different today. We used to have to escort what was called a "hot ship". The ship had been in a communist country within the last year. We would go out to the "sea buoy", along with the pilot boat. Sea buoy is the first buoy marking an entrance channel. In my case 3 miles offshore. The pilot would board the ship, and take it into port. Again in my case it would either go to Galveston or up the Houston Ship Channel. If it were going to Galveston tugs would meet it near the anchorage, then assist with the turn into Galveston harbor and then to dockside mooring. If the ship was going to Houston, the pilot would take all the way up to Morgan's Point where the ship leaves Galveston Bay and enters the San Jacinto River, Tugs meet the ship at Morgan's Point, assist with all the turns in the river and then dockside mooring. We would sit waterside to the ship while US Customs sat dockside for the duration of the visit. Then we did everything in reverse, tugs worked the ship to Morgan's Point, then dropping. pilot out to the sea buoy. From Galveston, tugs would assist to anchorage area, drop of and the pilot takes it to the sea buoy. The Houston Ship Channel is 50 miles long and only the last few miles does a tug get used. Note - 2 different pilot organizations are used, Galveston / Texas City and the then Houston Pilots.

Dog just called, said he was ready to come home.

STAY SAFE
LATER
