Larry...I hope Glendia has a WONDERFUL anniversary! ;) Congratulations on 38 years!! That's absolutely awesome!! :)

Good morning everyone.

Happy anniversary Larry!:)

I gave my hills a wash of diluted acrylics last night. They are now ready for a little ground foam and such. It sure is nice to be able to have something to look at other than the bridge and town area. It certainly gives my almost flat layout a little more dimension. Maybe I'll sprinkle some foam tonight when I get home.

Have a great day everyone.

Oh Boo Who!!!!! Oh Waaaaaaaaaaa! 90* and your already crying?:confused: Geee after a long hard winter you would think you would love a little warmth?:confused: Get out of the basement you mole and cut that damn grass!(Damn, that sound's like your wife huh!) Pavement Omelet is a term used down here to describe how hot it is,
" It's so Hot.....How hot is it?..... you can fry up a cheese omelet on the street!!"
Barf on the side of the road is just barf on the side of the road! And no one here eats barf here either!:D

Good Afternoon, Everyone.

Made it back home just about 5:00 pm with no problems. Dianna didn't do as well. She insisted on flying out of Denver in the late afternoon...in May...during tornado season on the Plains. Of course, her flight was delayed, which meant she missed her connection in Memphis. Delta wouldn't pay for the hotel since it was weather related and her hair dryer doesn't work, so she is hopping mad. She should be back at about 3:30 assuming more storms don't pop up here. I think I'll go up and stay with Rex for a few days. :)

Happy Anniversary, Larry! Not many make it to 38 years nowadays. Mine will be four years in July with Dianna and it would have been 44 years with Jean if she had made it.

Steve, that's a mental picture I don't even want to think about.. I always carried a small tube of Vicks Vapo-Rub with me. I put some under my nose when encountering smelly events of all kinds. Even thinking about it makes my stomach start to get queasy again. I'm glad to hear that you finally got some rain though.

Chris, I guess I can whine along with the others, since it's 95 right now with a heat index of 104. Man, it's really hot, but we've had so little rain that the lawn basically quit growing, so I don't have to worry about that right now.

Barry, looks like I got out of Cleveland just in time. You should cool down a bit tomorrow and then warm up again for the weekend. I forgot how clammy the humidity is up there, even when it's "only" in the high 80's. It's actually more comfortable here most of the summer than it is when the area up there gets really humid.

Corey, it's great when you start turning all that pink foam into something that looks like real landscape. I found it was easier to stay on target with the rest of the scenery once that step was done. Ground foam will cover a lot of sins...take it from one who knows. :)

CJ, sorry to hear the chemo is knocking down your immune system but protecting yourself from infections is certainly job one. Sounds like you managed to get some railroading in anyway. I really would have liked to see all the contest models as well, but, alas, it was not to be.

Glenn, I'm all in favor of an ARG meet at your place as well as Rex's. From the pictures I've seen, it looks like you have a great layout. Of course, we'll have to plan it when we don't have an oil hurricane headed towards Mobile.

Karl, having a basement in this kind of weather is really nice. My basement is always below 80 degrees no matter how hot it is outside. I really feel sorry for guys who have their layouts in places like the garage.

Hope things are going well for everyone else. I have to take a shower and (I hope) get Dianna at the airport.

Rex;

Too bad about your impression on the train show/convention, but the train show was only a small part of the convention. Considering that Paul Scoles, Tony Koester, Harold Garner, Cliff Powers, and several others were here, clinicians who you normally see at the national convention. There were also almost 100 models in the contest/display room. Talk about a great place for inspiration!
My deepest regret was that I could not attend.
Yeah well, I guess my expectations were too high for a regional. I had hoped for several layouts on the level of the Wrecking Crew's detail or better and to learn their setups and get some new ideas from those that did the work. The clinics would have been fine, if there had been one that offered something I was doing now or would be doing soon. BTW: Glad to hear your layout is moving along; I always thought you had an excellent plan.

Larry: HAPPY ANNIVERSARY Glenda! you too, Larry! :D!

Glenn: Sorry I missed you.

Jim: Welcome back to the land of high temps in the 90's. BTW: there is a nudist camp southeast of B'ham:eek:. I believe it is in the county next to Shelby.

Dianna did finally make it back and is only slightly grumpy. :)

Rex, yes indeed, it is a little warm today. Looks like some showers just across the state line are going to brush you but everything is moving south instead of east so we won't get anything...again. :( I never heard of the nudist colony. I think they keep things like that sort of secret in Alabama. :D

Hiya Gang!!!!!!!

Congrats Larry and Glendia! 38 is a long time, Jan & I will make it in 2045!!!:D

Chris, It's not that the heat is killing us (I'm out in it all day), its just that it's a shock after a cold winter and a mild spring. By August we'll be laughing at 90 (Cuz it will be 100 with 95% humidity!)

Jim, yes basements are literally cool! :D me likes!

Um guys, I thought a Bama nudist camp was a flock of shorn sheep??:p:D

Well, back to decaling another Maryland Midland GP38! (3 done, 1 working,3 more to build!)

Jim Having Dianna only slightly grumpy is a good thing! Its a whole lot better than seeing Audrey in a foul mood! She got a phonecall from her one sister having marriage issues again---third go round--:rolleyes:

We be celebrating our 30th anniversary next month----i already got something for her----:):);)

We actually only had 44% humidity and the high sat at 30C today--we only had humidex of 35C today--yay--:rolleyes:

We now have another rescue cat here---little runt of a siamese--chocolate point--found by a friend of ours wrapped up with duck tape in a plastic bag tossed into their drainage ditch. Took him to the vets and she gave the fellow a clean bill of health---said he was healthy as a horse--the name for this one will be "Horse"---"Spring" is actually looking after the little one---;):D:D

I thought all nudist camps were full of nothing but 60-70 year old people with Gavity Damaged junk dragging on the ground! Ewwwwwwww, yuck where's the bleach for my eyes!!

Back in the early 60's through mid 70's, My late mom Breed, Shows ,Sold, and Judge cats(at local cat shows) Siamese cats!:mad: At one time she had over 100 cats! Dad built her a huge Cat Run/Kennel for her hobby. Heck back in the 70's she would get over $300 for a kitten! I guess that's why dad put up with the cats and why I'm not crazy over cats!!

Last night was pretty busy. I had a fire dept meeting to go to, my first official meeting in almost a year. I had expected to be out of there in an hour but more discussions came up about future events and everything had to be hashed out to the very last detail. Very boring. I did however manage to squeeze in a few wise-cracks and some sound safety advice for the benefit of some of our newer fire fighters. The meeting started at 6:30 and ran to almost 9:30. One good thing was we had a good turnout, a lot of members showed up. It was agreed that we should begin concentrating on training again since we have only 8 members with any real experience. That will give me a chance to share some of the experience I have from my 16 years with the dept. There's a lot more to being a fire fighter than spraying water on a fire. Due to my disabilities I can't be a professional fire fighter but that doesn't mean I can't help to train professionals. I do have professional training. Between myself, the chief, the asst chief, a few of our guys who work for the Leesville fire dept as well as Sundown VFD, there's a wealth of experience and knowledge that can be passed on in the form of training missions, operations layout, relay and drop tank operations and water shuttle training. We also need to get more people trained on how to operate the pumping equipment. Being able to drive a fire truck is nice but what are you going to do once you get to the scene? If you have no training on the equipment you can't do much more than stand there with your thumb up your butt and a smile on you face. What good are you? Not much if you can't use the equipment you just brought. In a professional (paid) dept everybody has a job to do. On a volunteer dept you have to be able to do your job plus the job of anyone who hasn't shown up, so it's important that everyone know everyone else's jobs. There were many times I was on scene as the Incident Commander, the acting fire chief, pump operator, public relations as well as Safety Officer. Talk about being busy!

Jeff

We do a drill once a week as the minimum but i do two and sometimes more. You can never do to much training. We concentrate on the core elements mostly, hose inc pumping, ladders, breathing apparatus and Holmatro cutting gear but every now and again we do a specalist subject. Next week i am doing breathing apparatus including guidelines then in the evening were doing Draeger PS7000 digital entry control board which we are getting in July. Last night we cut up a car with the Holmatro stuff, all good fun :)

Chris

I don't know if it's the same in the USA but here the nudist camps are full of really fat bearded wrinkly old men and ladies, no wonder it never catches on !!!

LOL' down here you can't throw a rock and not hit one of those camps! Google my area.....3 or 4 of them the furthest 20miles away. Funny their adds show young nudist living there.....But in the real world there filled with nasty old men and women with their gravity damaged junk draging on the ground three feet behind um!LOL's My state is 60% RETIRED and thats what fills the colonys! I just wish they would do away with those places.............Makes an area seem trashy!

Steve: That cutting gear is fun to use. Here we call it the 'Jaws of Life' and all our people are required to learn how to use it. Several things to watch for. Don't cut through the support struts on a hatchback or other similar device. The pressure within the strut can launch the rod with lethal results. When cutting through the lock area of a car/truck/SUV door don't try to cut the locking post. It's case hardened steel and will shatter and shoot out like shrapnel. The results aren't pretty. The tool can sure turn a hardtop into a convertible really quick. Airbags are another danger. They can be absolutely wicked! Some new cars now seemingly have more airbags than most homes have drapes. When my nephew wrecked his Scion no less than half a dozen airbags went off. That was good for him as he came out without a scratch. However it's a different story when a rescuer is reaching into the vehicle and one or more go off. They can and often do cause serious injury to would-be rescuers who now need rescuing themselves. We use a tool with an end that looks like a slightly over-sized pike pole end to puncture any unfired airbags before attempting entry into the vehicle. Here's a little fact that can demonstrate how something originally designed to save lives can be dangerous. The Ford Pinto. Remember them? It the Pinto had been produced as it was originally designed (rupture-proof gas tank, airbags, etc) it would have been the safest car in the US. Instead Ford stripped it down to the bare essentials to counter the Chevrolet Vega and it became, quite literally, the deadliest car on the road.

Found my summer job :D, i think :p. My cousin just bought a retuarant and is in need of staff. I have choice of dishwasher, table buser, or a few other choices. Im thinking dishwasher, but maybe buser. I also discovered some money ive been sitting on for awhile. Copper!!! At $3/lb its not great right now, but im sitting on almost 30lbs that i have so far, the rest is still in the wheeler. I remembered that copper was worth something for scrap when we remodeled the new camp. If i can gather the rest that is in the trailer ill be close to probably 40-45lbs. Right now im at about $85.

Bob- Here in NY those races dont exist. I ran the 400, 800, and the mile all season. For indoor ill go back to middle distance as well, 300 and the 600, with maybe the 1000.

Chris- The only football in my near future is the meeting followed by testing a week after. Tennis is fun, but football is my favorite sport.

I should be in decent shape for testing, and theyll test again in august, hopefully with some improvement. I used to be able to bench over my weight, now im only getting like 125 and repping it. I havent found my max yet ive been so dissapointed with my performance. Track will help my 40 time as well as the shuttle run. The hardest thing will be keeping it up for the summer. I have some friends willing to go and run, but thatll keep my endurance up. Going and finding people to lift with is the harder part.
