Afternoon, everyone.

They did a good job but I'm going to have to move in with Chris if they find any more big problems. So far, it looks like we got the worst of it. In hindsight, it would have been a darned good idea if I bought termite insurance when I bought the house.

Glad to here your still alive jim, But no moving in here though!:o I got a bunch of little micro problems hitting me at the same time here too! Right now God's got me feeling like Job in the Bible.... Like Job everybody has advise that is completely wrong....I just got to sit it out quietly and wait till I geta sign to move!:o What doesn't kill me will only make me stronger!

Jeff- sounds like your making improvments on the new van. weve seen the before, wheres the after pictures?
Not out of the developing trays yet! I got the white areas done yesterday and about half of the black areas done today. I don't know why but I'm just SO tired today. I woke up tired this morning, went out and did one can worth of touch-up painting with white on some areas that still looked a bit dark then came back in a went back to bed. Woke up in the early afternoon and did the upper black areas on both sides and taking a 5 minute break in a canvas chair in the shade between cans. Tomorrow or Tuesday I'll tape off the areas where the black and white meet so I can get a clean line. Some of the paint got on the mirror frames but they can be removed and scrubbed with 91% alcohol. Some of the window glass caught some paint as well but a good scrub with the alcohol should take care of that. I've decided there will be two messages on the back. One on the door reading 'FREEDOM ISN'T FREE!' and the other will be on the bumper. It will read 'Don't laugh! Your daughter may be in here!'. Right now there's a sticker on it that says 'This property guarded by pit bull with aids!'.

mmmm--i could use a sign on my car like the "pitbull with aids!!"":D:D

Jim: Good thing to take with one---so far nothing as bad as Cleveland----but then De(s)troit is even more so---

This evening I pulled the grille and the headlight surrounds and repainted them silver as they should be. I'll let them dry overnight and reinstall them tomorrow. I'll have to scrub the front park/turn lenses with alcohol as some white paite got on them. Same goes for the rear lenses. That shouldn't take long.

Jim, the Silver Star rates your BIL Arlington in case you didn't know. I've got two great uncles and a cousin buried there. The two uncles were KIA during WWII and the cousin received the Bronze star in Korea and died in 1989 in a car accident.

Jeffery, The better half's 1992 tricked out T-Bird gets almost 1000hp out of a twin turbo charged V6. Depends on how much boost we twist into it. Sounds like your grandad's Buick when you pull up next to it at a stop light. But, when the turbos ignite, Katey, hang on!!! At 80mph, stomp on the gas, it will break the back tires loose and the rear end wants to come around. And right quickly!!! You had best be on your toes and have a firm grip on the steering wheel. Experienced a "butt clenching" moment myself. You know what those are. When you grab a section of seat with just your butt cheeks.

It does pretty good on gas mileage as long as you train your accelerator foot to go easy. Gets about 16mpg in town and around 20 on the highway. Not great, but one must consider what it is, too. Most of that can be attributed to the 3.07 gear ratio.

I have no idea of the top end. We tried it once. We ran out of driver before we ran out of car. In other words, I chickened out BEFORE we reached "maximum velocity". We were on the Interstate coming back from a T-Bird show near Detroit. I can imagine running 160mph, or so, and getting clocked by RADAR. I'd still be in jail. But the speedometer reads 160mph and we had the needle pinned against the peg, and there was PLENTY of throttle left. I don't even think we had the second stage of the turbos kicked in yet.

Good morning folks

It was 55 F this morning as I headed out. High will be 68 F with rain coming.

We had a busy weekend. On Saturday we visited the Delaware Art Museum. We saw the Dinotopia exhibit. James Gurney, the artist and writer of the books was there. We went to his talk about the books and how he created them and some of the other artwork he has done for National Geographic. Afterward the kids got books signed and personalized by him. Sunday we went to my daughter’s volleyball tournament. They did not too well, winning only two games and came in fourth place.

We got home, my son and I were supposed to start airbrushing his G-scale kits but he was not feeling well. He was coughing and complaining of an upset stomach. He went to sleep on the couch and slept until it was time for bed. When he does that we know he is not feeling well.

Tonight we have Boy Scouts. Depending on how my son feels he may just do his Scoutmaster conference and then come home. He needs to complete the conference to make his First Class rank official. My daughter also has flute lesson tonight.

My first car was a 1971 Ford Country Squire Station Wagon. It came with a Captian's hat and a boat slip. It had a eight cylinder ( I forget the size). To an 18 year old it was a lot of engine. It could pass anything on the road but a gas station. I paid a $150 for it. I put about $500 into the car and ran for two and a half years until the radiator went. There are times I miss that car.

I hope everybody has a good day.

Glad we dont have termites here Jim.

i have bullt my log store out of pine 4" x 4"s and pitch pine 9" x 3"s with good old fashioned lap joints and oak pegs holding it together, the roof is my old glass shower cubicle, it was a circular thing with 4 curved toughened glass panels which are now layed flat with silicone up the joints, it looks pretty smart :)

Glad we dont have termites here Jim.

This is what I've got done paint-wise on the van so far working just a few hours a day. I still have to paint the bottom panel below the trim line black but that's a project for another day when the ground is dryer. They say a picture is worth a thousand words so here's three pics to save three thousand words.

Gotta love dem contractors! They get a utilities map that's 10-15 years old then wonder why that pipe, wire or whatever else wasn't on it. Happens out here all the time. Had some idiot who works for the parish telling me one time that I couldn't park a vehicle in my back driveway because the parish maps showed it as part of a parish road. I told him to show where it said that on the map. He indicated the spot in question and I looked at the bottom of the page to see the date on the map. It was printed in 1963! He called it in and the supervisor came out with the right map and a survey crew. Needless to say, the parish road on that old map hasn't existed since 1965. My back yard is no longer classified as an active roadbed, but rather as an inactive roadbed and I can do whatever I want to with it. Right now my van is parked there.

Tomorrow I've got my usual once a week wound care appointment to go to, at 7:45 in the flipping morning. Then Wednesday morning I have to go see my primary physician so he can tell me how I did on the last physical, and he'll also be checking out my hand tremors. They're much better since he put me on the Zanac. Sometime tomorrow or Wednesday I'm going to see if I can get over to my parent's place to cut the grass. I'm hoping I can get the parts I need for the van soon. The handling stability of my car is getting worse. Don't know if I mentioned it but I found a second stress fracture just back of the right side A-frame just off the main chassis rail up front. It just keeps getting better and better! I've decided that once the van is back on the road I'll sign the Century over to my parents and they can do what they like with it. They'll likely sell it for scrap. I Would!

Good morning folks

It is 50 F and raining this morning. High will be 58 F with more rain.

I am still home. I will be dropping my daughter off at school and then heading to the office. My son is still sick. He now has a low grade fever. We will be seeing the doctor this afternoon.

Last night my daughter had flute lesson. My son went Boy Scouts to finish his Scoutmaster Conference. He is now officially a First Class Scout.

Tonight is my daughter’s volleyball practice.

I hope everybody has a good day.

Good morning everyone.

Jeffrey, even though that's not a professional paint job, it already looks better than it did. I guess in real life you could use a thirty foot rule to decide if something looks okay!:D Old cars and old women look better from a distance!

Since my boss is gone today, I have to work from nine to noon. What a ridiculous shift to work. Oh well, I still have the rest of the day to myself. My wife is gone for three days, so I have free reign over the whole house!

I've been working on carving foam on my layout. With the afternoon off, I think I'll finish shaping the contours and bust out the sculptamold. I should have a much more interesting looking layout by late afternoon. I have to say, building kits for the city is fun, but you can cover a lot of ground in a hurry when it's just landscaping. It's also a heck of a lot cheaper than plunking down thirty dollars every time you build a building from a kit!

I suppose had better get ready for my long day at work!

Have a great day everyone!

Go Jeffrey,,, you tell em mate, it's my drive go take a hike :D
according to the council plans i dont own half of my garden,,, but since it's been fenced off as mine for almost 18 yrs it IS my garden, if you fence something off and nobody contests it for 10 years (i think),, it's yours :D

Thanks! I have to agree, it does look MUCH better than it did when I got it. Some of my neighbors didn't even recognize it as the same vehicle until tyhey looked more closely.

It's amazing what a little sanding and a bit of paint can do.

Jeffery- You are producing a work of art.
Just like our railroads, if you are happy with the van paint job, everyone else can lump it!
My $.02 worth!

Well, another wet, gloomy day in Hoosierland. We've had so much rain that I think I'm developing webs between my toes. I think that the farmers that planted corn early may have problems with the seed and plants that are coming developing fungus and dieing. Bad deal if so. And the cooler temps aren't helping that much. Crops may need replanted or worse, fields left fallow for the season. Bad news for all, including consumers.

I had an appointment yesterday on my bid to receive disability. The lady thinks that I may be able to find "some kind of work". Sure, but, I don't think she understands stenosis, a narrowing of the spinal canal and how it affects things like sleep, walking, sitting, standing, and other range of motion. Add that to the problems my diabetes is causing like neuropathy and we have some serious problems going on. At least they want to get me hearing aids. Too much Led Zepplin in my youth, and loud machinery in my factory career, I guess. Left ear is dramatically impaired, while the right is severely impaired. Guess that means I'm deaf in one ear and can't hear out of the other. And the better half thought I was just ignoring her. HAH!!!!

The truck comes back tomorrow. And the wallet will return a few thousand lighter. I wish I could afford another truck now. $45000 to replace it is a bit steep, no matter how deep your pockets. I bought this vehicle thinking it would last the rest of my life. Silly me. It has very low miles for its year, as it only pulled the boat and because of its gas mileage wasn't used unless it was the only vehicle for the job, garage kept, oil changes every 2500 miles....... new filters at EVERY maintenance call. It still smells brand new at 6 years old. We still have the smaller Dakota and Ranger as well as the car. I have too many damned vehicles!!!! Only two of us and the dogs can't drive. I've been mulling over giving the grandson the Ranger, he just got his driver's license. But, he already has a car. His mother bought him a used 2003 Cadillac. Figures he won't be drag racing and would have plenty of "protection" to help him survive any learning curve mishaps. Probably a good thing.

Won't be much going on along the train front for a while now. Can't afford them with the truck eating away the budget. I have enough projects on the shelf to last a while, though. I've been putting off many. Nothing large, mind you, just a few, three shelves full of kitbashes including one shelf full of Mantua and Bowser 0-4-0, 0-6-0, 2-6-0 and 2-6-2 steam engines waiting to be converted to cab forwards. And there are a few of old Geeps, SD24's, and early F-units and E-unit shells waiting their turn in line to get new chassis' and a bit of detail work. Should keep me busy. And of course summer is coming, time to go aboard the boat and do some fishin'. Money might be a bit tight until we can recover from this big HIT. Wasn't planning on a huge repair job to the truck. SUCKS!!!!

Nice to see Jeffery's progress on his "Blues Brother's" van. I love that movie. Belushi, no matter how misguided his life, was a comic genius. Drugs took away a brilliant career. Seems that the truly creative ones are the ones most affected. But, once that ol' devil gets ya, it's a downward spiral with a very final last chapter.

Well, time for lunch and to wade out and get the mail.

Bob
