Can I get some examples of what you guys name your yard tracks?
Our club would like to start naming all of our yards tracks, and having a name that was easy to remember but descriptive like "East Freight 1" or "Service Rack 3" etc.
I just think a name is easier to remember than track 1-40.

By chance would someone have a detailed diagram of a modern yard like Decatur, IL or Baily yard in North Platte?
Something that would show what each track is named.
Thanks
Steven

Probably best to number the classification tracks and name the specialized tracks.

Do both if you want to but I find it much easier at my club layout to count the track switches from the rearmost being #1 to the front being whatever it is and having the track switch controls also numbered likewise, which with most control panels means you start numbering/naming from the top. It's a lot quicker to count tracks when in doubt than to remember their individual names. Too cumbersome and confusing.

As gregamer says, if you have yard tracks that serve certain industries or are say the team track etc, then names on the control board would be useful, but I think they should still be numbered in sequence from the back.
