Wondering if i've found a deal

Sorry I

First off let me introduce myself. I'm new to the forums and thought that this might be a good way to get in to the online community.

Secondly, I've been wondering if i've found a seller that doesn't know what he/she has...
http://cgi.ebay.com/Athearn-HO-Scal...l_RR_Trains&hash=item33635effdd#ht_500wt_1156

I've also found this...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...449943&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT#ht_500wt_1156
it's the same train company but i'm trying to get a comparison of these two engines. And if either of them are even worth my money.

That's a bit high for an Athearn (especially with $13 shipping). The Bachmann (2nd photo) is an oldie & basically junk.

HOYardSales has a lot of engines that are way cheaper than that & you don't have to bid on them. I have been buying from this site for quite awhile.
In about a month I'm going to put up a bunch of my custom engines(diesels) & some others. All Athearn. All will be $30.00 ea. or less. All of mine are DC only & all have LED's for lighting. Front & back.
So, about jan. 2nd thru the 5th I will put them on the FS section w/photo's.
I've got to get rid of at least 30 engines.

Just something to look for, high quality equipment generally has knuckle couplers. The horn-hook couplers on the units you found generally indicate a lower quality build, as do the blank number boards on the F unit and the vague description (four wheels on each side!).

Way way too much for the Athearn, The Bachman is not worth much. The Athearn model is a good model depending on how old it is can be converted to DCC. I agree he don't know what he has, thats why they are way over priced.

I find that people pay waaaay to much for ebay stuff. Try finding some local train shows or other forums that have classifieds. Good luck though.

Sorry I'm asking the exact same question again, but here's a seller with an atlas for 40$ bucks. I'm wondering if it's worth shucking out my good money.

There was a guy who was trying to unload a dead relative's {I think an uncle} trains in the for sale section here on this forum.
He almost got his post and account deleted with his attitude.
Maybe he did or left here in favor of Ebay.
He said he had no idea what he had, but was going to sell them off. He did take good pics of the stuff he had. He would charge shipping extra.

I, among others, pointed out the flaws in his asking prices. He listed a Bachmann 0-6-0 for $50 used, I kindly pointed him to a link to a brand new EXACT same model, number and loco ID number online brand new for $45.99. SO he generously lowered his asking price to $40 used. I still kindly told him {as did others on other trains} that I would still rather pay $6 more for a brand new-with warrantee loco. I would be paying shipping regardless where I got it, and I would want a warrantee. Naturally, some of the locos couldn;t be had online as brand new with warrantee, but his prices were still to high.

He got nasty with us and a moderator stepped in and told the guy he almost deleted his account because of his attitude, and that he should thank us all for the advice we had given him!
He did but I think he went to Ebay to unload what he thought were "valuable treasures" his Uncle had loved so dearly and he wanted to go to new homes where they would be appreciated just as much. {Just NOt at the prices he was asking!}.
Dunno maybe same guy?
