What's happening on your layout?

ModelRailroadForums.com is a free Model Railroad Discussion Forum and photo gallery. We cover all scales and sizes of model railroads. I am designing and re-designing... and re-designing again... my next module.
I had a great idea, but I try to model it up in SCARM, it doesn't come out quite so great.

After this one, I might tale a break and just lay some basic track so I can run some trains.

Pencil, rule, compass, and paper have always worked for me. I start with rough sketches of different track plans and when I have one I like, I then do a scale drawing.

I am progressing on painting my track. Still will be 1) brush painting the ties then 2) adding ballast:

This is all I do for prep, protecting some of the moving parts and the frog

Next I spray it down with dk rust primer then clean off the tops with fingernail polish right away:

I like the look with the top of the rail shiny and the rail sides and tie plates darkened. I will be experimenting with an acrylic wash for the tie color. The spray also does a good job of hiding my jumper cables.

This whole section has been sprayed. Tie painting and ballast still to come.

I have about 200' of track to do, I am about 2/3 done with the spraying!

Thanks for looking, Dave LASM

I spent about 6 hours in the train shed yesterday, including an hour of cleaning and organizing.

I got the abutments poured for the plate girder bridge, poured 4 concrete slabs for different buildings (hydrocal)

Also painted about 12 feet of track.

I ran out of paint, one more session of track painting then plan on sending the work train around the big loop.

I’m currently banned from Lowe’s. “Apparently” I over spent last weekend and my accountant was less than pleased. So it looks like not much is going to happen on the railroad this weekend. Haven’t bought any plywood yet. Trying to find a cheaper wood that’s smooth and flat. The stuff I want is running between $45 and $48 a sheet. *sigh*

First world problems.😜

I should note that my “accountant” is my wife and she is the one who”banned” me.
Took me about 10 seconds of thought to come to that conclusion.

On my layout I went around the mainline 5 times. On the first trip some screws fell out of the locomotive and I spent 20 min reassembling it. Runs fine now.

I looked at some new steam engines on the internet today and decided to use the ones I have...I did not bother running it by my accountant...
