Morning, everyone.

Chris, I was looking at the radar this morning thinking that amusement parks were not going to have a good day. Lots of convection everywhere in central Florida. Yes, if cap and trade passes in its present form (I've slowly been reading through all 1600 pages of the bill), it will affect every business and every consumer and it will lead to grossly higher costs with almost no environmental benefit. I don't think we'll have to worry about working for the state - it will be the STATE, as in the 1984 STATE.

Andrew, glad you managed to get an air conditioner for a reasonable price. It's one of those things that you don't need often but, when you need it, you really need it. Your description of English traffic laws is hilarious. I remember waiting about 15 minutes trying to get across a roundabout in London and I finally walked down to blocks to a traffic signal. If you think France is bad, try a few weeks in Mexico. All traffic control devices, including a cop in the middle of the street, are just suggestions. You'd better be a pretty good sprinter or you'll be squashed like a bug.

Tom, if you haven't done so, you might consider having your wife tested for all the things blooming at this time of year. If they can identify the allergen, they give desensitization treatments, which may work.

BOC, stop stealing our rain! We're dying down here. Never heard of Jackie Washington but it sounds like he must have been quite a singer to have counted the Duke and the Count and friends. RIP.

Corey, having the central air off...stop....you're making my stomach hurt from laughing. :D If I'm lucky, we might be able to open a window again about October or so.

Sandy, a cross dressing hold up guy sounds about right for Boulder. It is about the prettiest open air mental asylum I've seen though. Good for you if you got on an FBI list for voicing your opinions. I think I'm on about 10 lists. You would have better luck talking to the dog than writing to Barbara Boxer though. She used to be my Senator and is one of the biggest wastes of human flesh walking the earth. Oops, that probably got me on another list. It's hard for me to understand how more Americans are not getting up in arms about what's happening. I guess they will once the bills start rolling in and they have no job to pay for them :(

Did y'all hear that California now wants to be declared a "economic disaster area"? Arnold said it's just like Katrina. Well, not exactly like Katrina, since there was no wind, no floods, and there was only three days warning with Katrina. California has known for 30 years that this economic tidal wave has been about to hit. But, otherwise, it's just like Katrina. Barney Frank wants to help them out and is trying to get Obama on board. I wonder what they'll take as collateral? Maybe they'll have to mortgage MJ's star on Hollywood Boulevard or something. Man, am I glad I got out of there when I did.

It's 105 degrees with 15% humidity and 20 mile an hour winds blowing. We are now starting to get a lot of fires break out. This heat and lack of rain is starting to get to be a real problem now.

Well got back from the movies (Transformers 2) and dinner! When we were out I went to a craft store and bought some Basswood and tried my hand at bridge bent.....Not bad for the first bridge part I have ever made:o Now got to run back to the store tomarrow and get some more wood!:D

Good evenin'

We still are getting poured on---though right now the neighbourhood be jivin' to the tune of several mowers going at once---including mine for about 1/2 hr:eek: Is called "panic mowing for a panic week" don't you know--:):D:D:rolleyes:

Jim OK. Is Boxer worse than Palosie(SP!?) or is it the other way round? I'm never sure that those two AREN'T clones:eek::eek::mad: The stuff on Cap and Trade that I've seen are increasingly getting stranger everytime I read them. I read a bit of stuff through the digests that the university has and that was enough!! YUCK!!:mad::mad:-----As to the rain---do you think a mind meld between us and you'se guys could force the dang storms south?:(:):)

Chris How many bents are you doing?--that's going to be a HUGE bridge!!:D:D

I received a new covered hopper in the mail yesterday from a modeler in Canada. The first photo shows what it looked like out of the box and the second photo shows it after a fade and weather job.

We have still yet to figure out what triggers these attacks. Since they seemed to come at the end of June/beginning of July every year we suspect some plant. Now to just figure out which one.
When I lived back there, it was determined I was allergic to mold spores. I got horrible allergy attacks from March 15-April 30, again from June 15-30, again in mid-October, and a short bout in early November.
I cured myself by moving. Far away.:o

Happy Canada Day !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good morning folks

It was 68 F on the way this morning. High will be 81 F. I was surprised that the commute was not a nightmare with the heavy fog we have. You literally cannot see more than 10 feet in front of you. Also there was an overturned truck on the ramp from I-476 North to I-76 West which is my first route into the office. The accident happened yesterday around 2: 30 PM. The ramp was reopened just before I left the house. I did not risk it and took the back way to work with little traffic to contend with.

Last night my daughter had her flute lesson. Once we got home I had to fix a couple of problems with some computer programs that were “messed-up”.

Tonight we have some running to do but I may get some train time later in the evening.

I hope everybody has a good day.

Good morning.

It's 76 and cloudy. The high will be in the high 90's and it will be partly cloudy. It goes without saying that it's gonna be another hot one today.

I spent part of yesterday working on a covered hopper I got from a friend in Canada. It went from bright, shiny and new looking to dull, flat and rusty in a matter of a few hours. To say that I had fun doing this is an understatement. I had a blast. I did have to do some minor repair work on it as I went along. One of the body end panels had come loose and had to be glued back in place. One of the coupler pocket covers had broken off and had to be carefully glued back in place. The brake wheel had come off and had to be put back in place. I removed the walkway so I could paint it rail brown without getting paint on the hatch covers then carefully reattached it. Nothing escaped the weathering. Today I'll be doing a little work at my parents home then I'll be back here to work on the layout some more. I have a boxcar that's showing it's hind end and ticking me off. I suspect it has an axle binding.

Good morning---

We are getting the ol' 60% shower raining over our heads. Supposed to get to 19C today with the low going to 13C tonight----:rolleyes:

It's CANADA DAY!!!!!:D:D:D

And so I have a day off------to go work on the basement--

AndrewC Good conversion chart! LOL!!:D:D----BTW--on the Stanley Cup?The last one will be changed to Maple Leafs lose to Jim Balsillies new NHL team.:D:D:D

Have a good one, people!!:D:D:D

Morning. Everyone.

HAPPY CANADA DAY to all our friends up north. For all the picking we do at each other, the US and Canada have always been fast friends and allies when either country needed help. It shows something about our two countries that we have the longest unfortified border between any two countries in the world.

Andrew, that conversion chart is hilarious. Except for the part about the Maple Leafs, it would apply to Cleveland as well. We had an NHL team for two years, the now long forgotten Barons. They now have some weird AHL team called the Lake Erie Monsters.

Chris, you will get good at building trestle bents, that's for sure. :)

No clouds here, Jeffrey, but it's still hot. Nice KCS hopper you got.

BOC, you're still stealing our rain. I like Canadians and all but this is starting to get me mad. At least you have to suffer with rain on your day off. :)

In addition to half the state dying from heat stroke, more sad news from Alabama today. For the second year in a row, we lost our title for the chunkiest people in the nation to Mississippi. :( We only lost by .7 %, which shows my fellow Alabamians are just not putting their hearts into reclaiming this title. We suspect it's the yuppies in Huntsville with all their organic restaurants that are pulling us down. I feel proud, however, since Alabama baby boomers between 55 and 64 are the biggest lard butts in the country. Since that's my age range, at least I know we are giving it the old college try. :) Sandy, Colorado is the thinnest state in the union. You guys need to spend more time at McDonalds and less time at those sissy Nepalese vegetarian restaurants you have on every street corner. :D

Went to Alexandria today and picked up an Athearn 92842 RTR 50' plug and sliding door boxcar (#316212 BN) at the LHS. Left there and went to Hobby Lobby. Picked up 2 packs of Testor's decal paper, 1 clear and 1 white. Also got a set of Floquil paint pens. Aged concrete, weathered black and roof brown. Last but not least I got a Design Preservation kit. The M.T. Arms Hotel. I'm going to build the kit then cut it in half and use it as two relief flats against the backdrop at the back of the layout. Sort of two buildings for the price of one. I also have a 'Belvedere Hotel I'll be doing that with.

Good Evening

Well, another kinda sorta wet day with 60% showers monsooning on us. OK, well, not quite monsoon but getting dang close to it----and DULL!!

Got the ol' BBQ done around 2pm then spent the last few hours stuck in the basement trying to get my corner cleaned up.:( I did find 22 wheel/truck sets though:):):)

Jim I keep telling the dang clouds to go somewhere else but they love it here:mad::rolleyes: Now, I remember the Cleveland Baron name but from whence it was-----:confused::confused:

Have a good evenin'---we may still get the ol' neighbourhood firework display up yet:):)

Evening all!
Sorry to be late, but HAPPY CANADA DAY!

Finally, hobbled over to have a cup of joe. I'm worn out from working on the covered deck (porch). Fortunately, I enlisted the wifey to help me stain all the posts, handrails, etc; everything, but the deck itself. She agreed to help providing I got all the sun and she the shade. We worked 5 1/2 hours and didn't realize it was 97 degrees because of a nice breeze. Good thing, as we probably would have stayed inside ;):D.

I declare tomorrow a day of rest: well, maybe a little fooling around. I have an MR friend coming over in the evening to run trains. Hope everything still works, since I haven't hit the power switch in over two weeks. :o

Heard that MJ's estate was worth $500 Mil. I thought he was in financial trouble a few years back. Amazing all the praise and attention the druggie, freak, pedophile, has gotten...as if he was an innocent victim of society. BULL Hockey! How about an adult BRAT!

Jim, you must sit on top of a volcano. Those temps are awfully high when compared to Clanton and Montgomery, just north and south of you. Ya ain't suppose to measure on the concrete :D.

CU'll tomorrow! :)

We got the fireworks done just a few SECONDS before another downpour showed up!!:eek::D:D:D

Attendance? Try around 125 people. Not bad for the first one we put on!!:)

Well, we be off for bed-----have a good night-----;)

Evening, everyone.

Jeffrey, that M.T Arms Hotel is a nice kit but a bear to paint. Also watch to make sure you get all the walls square. The beveled guides are very shallow.

BOC, that Barons lasted two years, 1978-1979. Actually got in the playoffs in '79, self-destructed, and went bankrupt. Cleveland is actually great sports town but hockey has just never caught on. Maybe your fireworks show will scare some rain down this way. :) We did actually have a few flashses of lighting ourselves but that was it. I thought you guys in Canada weren't allowed to have dangerous explosives like fireworks.

Rex, I'd take a day off also. We're too old for this kind of stuff. My temperature sensor is located under our deck in a louvered box per NWS specs. I've checked it with a mercury thermometer and it is within one degree. We live on top of a 595 foot hill and I think we get higher temperatures because there's not much in the way of trees around the house. Montgomery's weather station is located near the river and Maxwell's is located next to a swamp, which lowers their temperatures and raises their humidity. Clanton doesn't have an official NWS station so I don't know how they measure temperature. We also never get as cold in the winter because the cold air drains off our hill but we tend to get the most snow. Something strange about our topography. I know my observations aren't too far off since it's 79.7 here right now and 80 in Montgomery. I'm a pretty good judge of temperature just standing outside and I know it was well over 100 here today. My thermometer said 105.6 as the high.

I'd have to agree that MJ was about as bad a role model as any young person could have. What amazes me is the amount and types of drugs he was using. He was getting Diprivan IV to help him sleep! This is a fast acting sedative and anesthesia agent that's usually used for things like endoscopys. It needs to be administered and montiored by an anesthesiologist because it can cause a rapid drop in blood pressure and respirations. I don't even know how he was getting this stuff since only hospital pharmacies can dispense it. If he was taking this stuff in combination with Demerol, I'm pretty sure I know why he died. That "doctor" he had living with him needs to be bought up on charges because MJ certainly wasn't starting IV's on himself. It will certainly be interesting to see what the toxicology report shows.

Another clear and warm night here. With a humidity of only 51% this late at night, the chances for rain tomorrow aren't looking too good. :(

Mornin' guys!

Well, got the daughter married off. It was a real nice wedding, everyone had fun. Took me a couple of days to recover, I think after it was all over the stress was lifted off and I just crashed for a few days.

I did take a short trip down to Maryland and back to visit a couple of relatives who could not attend the wedding. Got home yesterday about three and just rested the rest of the day.

Felling pretty good this morning and will probably get back into modeling here sometime tonight. Got tomorrow the grass today and check the brakes on my daughters car, might have to replace the linings and the rotors.

Looks like things are nomal around here, I see some chatter going on about MJ. What a weirdo, but in my opinion he was still just a person and people should respect his family's privacy. The thing that really gets me about these celebrities like him, is all the people who have never seen the guy, never knew the guy and they get all busted up about it and cry on TV. Like they really lost a close relative or friend. Sure, the whole situation is sad, but give ma break, these people never even knew him.

Oh well enough about that. Going to have a few cups of coffee and get started on my day, talk to you guys later...:D

I hear ya. I've read of the painting horror stories and the corner angles of some of the DPM kits on other forums. I've taken the precaution of checking the angles and grinding them to the proper 45 degree angle. As for the painting, I had no problem with it after I sprayed the parts with a sealer. I painted it last night. It's going to have the appearance of an old dirty concrete structure that hasn't been cleaned since Methuselah was a kid.

Good morning.

It's 76 and clear. The high will be over 100 and it will be partly cloudy.

I'll be out mowing my sister's yard this morning provided she got her mower fixed. Later I'll be working on a DPM structure I bought yesterday. Due to reading many postings on the problems others have had with DPM kits concerning painting and the angles of the joining surfaces not being right I went through it yesterday and checked the angles and corrected those that weren't right. As for the painting, I sprayed the parts with a sealer. I painted it last night. The structure will have the appearance of a dirty old concrete building that hasn't been cleaned since Methuselah was a kid. After the walls are all joined I'll cut the building in two and use the halves as raised backdrop buildings against the back of the layout. When one of my neighbors found out what I'm planning to do with it he almost flipped out.

Good morning folks

It was 67 F and overcast as I headed out this morning. High today will be 82 F. We had some nasty storms roll through overnight. The one that hit about 1 AM woke me up with all the lightning and thunder.

I wound-up last night helping my wife on the computer to do her monthly report for summer job. For some reason when she tried to do things with the report document all kinds of chaos ensued. The document is rather mundane but the whole process seems to be a bunch of bureaucracy gone wild. But in the long run f it helps her get money to go back to college and get her teacher’s certification it will have been worth it.

We are about to embark on a long holiday weekend since I have tomorrow off. We are planning on take a day trip to Cape Henlopen State Park near Lewes, DE. The trip has two purposes. One is to go to the beach and second is to scope the park out as a potential camping trip for the Cub Scouts next summer. Saturday we have a parade to march in with the Cub Scouts and fireworks to view in the evening. Who knows if the stars line up correctly, I may get some modeling in.

The big question, however, in these parts is when will I see another paycheck. As of yesterday due to the state budget crisis we have been working without a way to get paid. This will continue until a budget is passed. We went through this in 1991 and we missed two paydays back then.

I hope everybody has a good day.
