Weekly Photo Fun 1/15 - 1/21

ModelRailroadForums.com is a free Model Railroad Discussion Forum and photo gallery. We cover all scales and sizes of model railroads. Online since 2002, it's one of the oldest and largest model railroad forums on the web. Whether you're a master model railroader or just getting started, you'll find something of interest here.

Then something a bit sad. This started life as a Fine Scale Miniatures "John Allen Engine House". Kit was assembled years ago (judging by the state of the painted details) by another builder. It was sitting on a clients layout awaiting installation when it was crushed. I got it to make into a derelict engine house since the damage was extensive. Roof was destroyed, end walls were damaged, three of the six main doors were shattered.

I reattached the end walls, removed some of the interior details then started making the interior into something that had been abandoned. I am installing new rafters (some of which will be sagging/broken) and will partly shingle the roof too.

When it is done it is going back to the clients layout to be installed in a new spot where the scene calls for something abandoned.

DJ, forgot to comment on the deer photo, it does look like that buck has the "deer in the headlights" look. :)

Ron, nice looking build and paint job on the Gulf station. Believe or not, I'm old enough to remember buying regular for 20 cents a gallon during a gas war in LA. Anyone else remember gas wars?

John, that's great looking set of tenements. Probably a bit too clean for being that close to the tracks but chalks and paint can solve that. Nice job on the fencing and landscaping.

Matt, those open top tanks of yours always look amazingly real. The abandoned engine house probably couldn't have been done better if you planned it that way. Great way to change a tear-jerking accident into a unique model. :D

Jeffrey, nice looking flat and trailer combination.

Gary, interesting train going by on the main. Looks good except for the Hughes 500. After having a near death experience in one of those, I prefer not ever see one again.

Well Jim! I will respectfully have to disagree with you...It is simply a prop in a picture, which I like...Although I sympathize with your past experience, I will continue to use props of my choosing.

Matt.... Wow! I just love your creations!!!

Quick update on my "Bridge to Nowhere". the MOW crew arrived last night and put down ties. There has also been a few more braces installed.

Roger the shrubber arrived on the SLOW and planted a few shrubberies (some up higher than the others with a little walkway coming down.....). Anyway some scenery has been added under and near the "Bridge to Nowhere".

Did some TRE (Trinity Railway Express) Running last night...
Locomotive problems forced a motive power swap. These Athearn commuter coaches are FINIKEY!!! we found every slightly bad spot on the railroad... had to re-spike one section... and just cant run 'em without derailin unless we replace a few stretches of flex track.

Most of the problems were track out of guage, but nothing else derails on those sections...

And staged with the correct locomotive:

I wish that the train could make it around the layout... I've had plans to put lights and sound in both the locomotive and cab car... and extensive project, but worthwile... IF you can run it... worthless if you cannot...

Ray,

Very nice work on the Bridge to Nowhere! But I have a question...

Does Roger the Shrubber know the Knights Who Say "Ni!"?? He even included the path!

Just curious...

I think he may have....... But only as a sub-contractor for King Arthur. No maybe I'm thinking of The Knights who now say, "ekki-ekki-ekki-pitang-zoom-boing!”?

Gary, sorry, I meant no offense at your use of the model. I was involved in a complete power loss crash in our Sheriff Department's 500D and was lucky to survive. My comment was based on my experience and tongue in cheek, not meant that you shouldn't use the props you want. (Pun intented :) ) Sorry if I didn't come through too clearly.

Ray, the shrubberies are making the Bridge to Nowhere look better all the time. Maybe he can hang some flower boxes off the side. :)

V&AL, I've heard that those commuter cars are heck on tracks, which is probably why I don't have any. I've read that adding a few ounces of extra weight in each car helps a lot.

No problem Jim...Thanks for clarifying it.

I appreciate the response, Gary. Sometimes, things come across different on the net than if we were talking in person. If you ever want to remodel the load as a wreck being transported back to the factory, I have some real good pictures. :)

NB, nice locomotive, but I just can't get used to seeing a name other than Santa Fe on a warbonnet scheme. Are those Atlas built-up houses? They look pretty good.

your problem is not the track, the problem is the flanges on the wheels of the care are tooooooooooooooo small. that happens to everyone that has bombaider cars. nothin can be done about that, although if u unscrewall the trucks about 1/4 of a turn, that will also help alot

Whats that UP locomotive doing in the highway, alittle bit of street running eh? :D

btw great looking layout

lol...I pulled it off the tracks to put the dead TRE loco on for the staged pics.

Dallas hit it on the head... the flanges on the Athearn Bombardier cars are minuscule...
