Concept art for a new project:

in a non-Amtrak world, freight railroads would be required to run passenger service themselves, with close federal supervision and subsidies (in the form of tax breaks) to keep Americans on trains. Surprisingly, the program works quite well...

The blue needs to be lighter and the red a bit more towards the claret end of the spectrum. :D UK football supporters will know what I mean. (c'mon you Irons) Otherwise a perfect colour (color) scheme.

Jeff: following your exploits is like watching a soap opera. Addictive and frustrating. ( frustrating in that you can't physically keep up with my demand for what you will do next) :D:D:D

Jeffrey, is it me, or is that track to the bottom of the last picture not aligned correct!?

It's aligned correctly. What you're seeing it another piece of track laying on top of it.

I've been told by some that I'm too slow, others that I'm too fast. For a crippled man of 48, I'm just right.

I was out of town this past weekend so no new modeling. But before then, I was working on a Walthers turntable kit (the cheap kind, without the motor). I'm still in the process of weathering the pit, but here is where it's at so far:

Is this kit still available somewhere? It looks perfect for the space I have for a turntable, and not so complicated as to tax my modeling skills, such as they are...

Otter, you'll be happy to know that Walthers has both versions of their 90ft turntable in stock - the non-motorized kit and the motorized, built-up model. I'm not really using mine for anything other than to "look purty", that's why I got the kit. If you want a decent operating model, I'd recommend getting the built-up even though it's pricey. The tolerances on the kit are just too sloppy for building a smooth, flawless-running motorized TT.

BTW Crandell - thanks for the kind words!

Good stuff, guys. Jeffrey, you are also our E-Z track king here. :) Ken the turntable looks great. I'd add the kind of crud Crandel was describing to the bottom and a few weeds and maybe some small puddles, since every turntable I've ever seen never drains correctly after a rain. It's hard to make the bottom of a turntable too weathered. And no, the cars weren't lighted, that was courtesy of my photo editing software. That was one of your pictures and I forgot to give you credit, sorry about that.

Jeff:

I think you'll like the Zephyr. I've had mine for about a month now. I've only been using it on a 10' long speed matching track but so far I'm really happy with it. It got even better when I add the PR3 and started programming with DecoderPro.

With the exception of a coating of Matte-Finish, yes. It was a gift from a very special friend of mine who now lives in Orlando, Florida. I'm installing a DZ-125 decoder in it today.
