Ray, that would be me, looking at a Tortoise machine and trying to figure what end goes where. The only difference is my workbench isn't as neat as yours. :)

Jerry, nice exposure on those night shots. The streetlight spacing in town looks just about right for the real world.

TB, how come I never run across deals like that? Really nice looking display cases, especially for the cost.

Jeffrey, where's the air conditioning plant sign? :D

Steve, do you guys actually have grafitti like that on your intercity trains? If so, I'm really sad. I thought the Brits had more class than that. Great pictures, especially of that industrial plant. That thing has more pipes than I've seen in a entire Home Depot store. What kind of plant is is it? Nice CSX module too. I wonder how many of the people at the show thought American locomotives look funny? :)

Nice modelling above!

This week, with insulators correctly coloured (ahem :) ), a Norfolk & Western Y6b Mallet type emerges from a heavily sooted stone portal to find a fresh dusting of early winter snow.

Jim graffiti is everywhere, tagging has caught on like wildfire. One of the worst events i can remember from last year was when a gang attacked the coaching stock used in the harry potter films, every coach was painted front to back inside and out,,, and what did they get,,,, "don't do that again or you may get in trouble next time" i think the final bill came to almost £100,000, and they got a bit of a telling off, made me sick to be british.
The CSX layout was very popular, and well made.

Not sure what the chemical plant produce, there are bits from allsorts of kits in it.
Crandell Thats an awesome shot

Steve, the British Government is going to find out that approach to graffiti is a bad idea. We finally started to get grafitti under control in California when we made more than $1000 worth of damage a felony and started getting the professional gangster graffiti "artists" in state prison for a year. All the other people we arrested spent every Saturday for three months cleaning up graffiti. That seemed to take some of the allure out of using other people's property as your own.

Crandell, very nice snow scene indeed. The insulators look pretty good too. :)

Great pics as ever everyone,

Steve i did the show Friday night and the CSX large scale seemed to attract a fair amount of a attention!

My favourite shots from this week.

Wow every ones layouts are amazing. Mine looks like crap but it should get there. I got all my track down today except one bridge that the paint is still drying. I tested out some ballast, its not glued down yet but I just wanted to check if I like the color.

This is the other side of the layout that won't be hidden by the backdrop (everything with blue foam exposed will be "behind the scenes".
GEDC0182.jpg

When I get the bank painted and sceniced it'll look better but as far as the actual water im happy with it. Although you can only see half of it.
GEDC0181.jpg

This is the behind the scenes, just three loops in the back. And no I don't like LSU the purple and gold wire were the cheapest. :D
GEDC0185.jpg

Im off the rest of the week for fall break so hopefully I'll get every thing ballasted and hobbylinc was out of single ground throws so I guess ill go out later and get that last one I need.

Steve, What kind of hopper cars are those green ones, and where can I get some?

PM or email OK in response, too. :)

John, nice retaining wall. Kind of sad about the old signal box being dismantled though.

Mike, looks like you're doing goog to me. You've got tracks down and some green stuff, which is more than most of us. :)

Jeffrey, I think you are our champion decoder swapper. Now you need to get some numbers in those number boards.

River, I think those are British prototype jumbo tank cars.

I don't know if I ever posted this one. First Street as darkness falls on Hillside:

Say, that's pretty sharp, Jim. :D Nice signs, and lighting, too. Is that Grampa on the roof?

-Crandell

Thanks, Crandell. Note the translucent look to the insulators on that telegraph pole too. :D I have someone on every roof in downtown, either hiding or in plain sight, slaking off from work. They are supposed to represent my youngest daughter, who is the self-professed biggest slacker in the USA. :)

i enjoy looking at roof detail Jim, it tell's a story for sure.

riverotter The green one's are Bachmann T.E.A. oil tankers by Bachmann, i get them from shows normally, but ebay is another good source, they are OO gauge though don't forget.

A couple of those grades look awful steep. You might consider running a train on them before ballasting.

Crandell,
What did you use for snow?
Steve,
Love the O scale CSX Loscoe Yard layout. Makes me want to switch to O scale! Anyone know who makes the GP30?

Those grades are in the back so thankfully i wont have to ballast them. They look alot steeper in the pic than they are, but they are a pretty steep grade. I went and ran a train on them and there wasn't any problems (except the derailment from the nail I left in the middle of the tracks:D) Im gonna be running an a and b unit on it with maybe 3 or 4 coal cars so it shouldnt be much of an issue.

For the past couple of weeks I've been working on two old Mantua flatcars. I cut the horrible looking tops off them (made for culvert pipe I think) and leveled them off with some wallboard joint compound. I now have the new deck down on one of them and it looks really good.

This photo shows what they were like when I got them:

Here's how they looked after I cut them down and painted them:

And here's the one I've completed:
