:eek:Well BLOW ME Down! :eek:Wow! I didnt know we had strrrrong dislikes for UP! :(

Well all I can say is that if it runs on rails I like them all and even if they are falling off the tracks like CSX....:p;)I still like em 'cause simply they are still trains to me. :D

I cant help that UP has survived over the history of RR and I cant help that they are my favorite. I do still like a lot of the fallen flags and other RR.

Oh well I can live with it and it dont bother me a bit if others choose to have their opins to which they are entitled. Just cant change them nor mine!:D

My first favorite Scheme was just Norfolk Southern. Even though all black might seem boring. There was just somthing that turned me on about an all black SD70M with a horse on it haha.

A bit more progress on the hotel. Next up is building a cooling tower for the roof, this is a "modern" facility with 1930's style air conditions so a swamp cooler is in order. And starting the interior for the main floor and front rooms on the 2nd and 3rd.

UP has come up with some real cool special Paint jobs too! I just wish they and other RR would WASH their equipment and keep it nicer looking! I know I have to wash and keep clean every piece of equipment in the shop!

I will add in my comment on train schemes. UP is still my favorite because it is what I have grown up with. BNSF is also good, but I prefer the BN colors to the new orange. After now seeing the new CSX and NS schemes in person, I like those both too!

Got the "swamp cooler" nearly finished, still needs piping and started the first floor interior on the hotel today.

Pretty amazing work as usual, MD. How did you build the lobby stairs?

With this talk of paint schemes, I can't think of too many really bad ones today. Compared to the bad old days of the Penn Central, locomotives today are beautiful.

Jim the lobby stairs were built using stacked 3' pieces of .100x.625 Evergreen strip. They have a 8" tread which allows the rest of the strip to form a solid connection to the next tread. Side walls are Evergreen sheet stock. Trim has yet to be added to the lobby area.

I think that the UP does a great job with their special paint job locos. It's great to see some of the memories kept alive.

I'm starting work on a new scene. It will be on the drop-out section of the layout that was occupied by midtown consolidators. I decided it's time for a change. Midtown Consolidators had been there for a long time (nearly 9 years) and was falling apart. The new scene will be the Shell Auto Center. I have the building, scenery details (pumps, etc), vehicles, figures, etc to get a good start on it. The building has it's own light (cheap Model Power light) so I'll be replacing it with quality lights that I have on hand. The biggest job will be masking off the windows from inside so I can spray the interior flat black to prevent the lights shining through. Here's a few photos of what I'm starting with.

WOW mdcustom, that interior looks great! I used wood for the interior of one of my buildings, might have to switch to styrene now!

Mike, ironically, I have a bashed model of 2646 sitting next to me and I had to glance at it to compare it to the pic you posted here to see any diiferences. I personally like the tier1 sd70m locos better than the tier2 (aces, m-2's), they seem to have more class than a regular sd70m. Although the only real difference is the flared radiator and some cab details.

Jeffrey, I seem to have seen those cars before......Wonder where? lol:rolleyes:

Yep I sure like them too! Over the years they have always done some special paint job. I have a few of them in my HO roster. I have the Desert Storm Victory and United Way. I am waiting on the new releases of the various manufacturers for the Heritage Schemes....I will most likely have of those schemes when they come out.:D I will be getting the latest demo release by athearn that has the UP on the AC4400 Demo.:D I like running demo models too.

Josh I like using styrene for interiors, it is strong and goes together fast. Only time I use wood is for an older building where the walls were not plastered.

I do use wood for the interior furnishing, it is easier to carve into chairs and sofas then a block of plastic.
