Another freight car that has been played with too much.

Originally meant for me it has evolved. It was mentioned I should add graffiti and sell it. When I mentioned this was my “real” official attempt to ding and dent a gondola and it was for me. I ended also having to add welding patches when the denting machine (soldering iron) created some holes (5) in the sides. I was then reminded I am not really attached to anything material wise. So…
I am changing the couplers to #148’s by Kadee and changed the wheels to 36” Walthers Proto steel wheels. Contemplating custom graffiti on one side. This is the last of my good deal, can’t refuse the offer, Walthers Mainline series gondolas (never again). Only took me 30 months to get to the last one and #9!
Working on a rebar load.
CambriaArea52 (tom) said 15 pieces and 15 bundles to make up a load. 3 bundles done and still an experiment. Tom uses 28 gauge wire, I had some of the 22 ga. I use for making tree trunks and limbs. It’s too thick. Not a loss though as they are about the size I use for bushes. I have some green 26ga. I use for branches that I will try next.
Not being satisfied yet wit rebar loads, let’s head to the scrap pile. Yes, I seem to be avoiding the final 2 NS diesels…
Thought I had enough scrap on the load but needed more. Additional painting needed after the glued on additions cure!
Happy USA Labor Day to all who have ever worked!
I am done with the last of the gondolas I purchased 30 months ago. This is a Walthers ready to run series car. I replaced the plastic wheels with Walthers Proto 36” steel. Changed the couplers to Kadee #148 whiskers, dented, dinged and added weld plates. Weathered and tagged. Overall, I enjoyed doing this car for me
I didn’t have enough or the correct gauge wire to create a believable rebar load, so I went with a styrene scrap load with a glued magnet to easily unload from the gondola

I don't know Tom, that gon may have to be scrapped with the load.

Great job.

Great job.
It has structural integrity and that’s the story I’m sticking with. With its new wheels and the load it rolls very nicely. Thank you
This is the 3rd of 3 same numbered WalthersMainline 60’ High Cube CP boxcars I have done. Weathered only a few months ago
the other 2 cars sold fairly quickly but not this guy!
Added some graffiti decals, a few custom drawn tags, some touch up and it’s ready for another sales attempt after the final clear coat has dried
10 sulfur cars to be worked on, 9 new and 1 to be stripped and renewed
6 still in the rack for me someday
if you would like a sulfur car, I have more new in the box not shown in these pictures. Use the forum internal email system to contact me. I believe my rates are reasonable
I will be processing the 9 new and will be doing pictures as the client these are going to has no problem with me posting before he gets them
off to clean these…
3 centerbeams for Me!
No graffiti and no tags but more grime then for client commissions.
A work in process and I will work on the outsides of the end panels, the underframe, couplers need changing and weathering. The wheels will get changed out and weathered
Maybe not grimy enough on the end panels
Nice weathering on all the cars, but I'm not sure about the sulphur "splashes" on the PPRX cars tho.

Looks kind of cheesy doesn’t it. I added them at the last minute and I think there are too many. Less is more…like the car below
Thanks I will look at them again tomorrow and decide to remove them

You could try having the spillage nearer the dome, and perhaps a touch or two under the ladder.

Thanks Chris, it’s on the agenda for today
These are for me. Arrived this morning. Washed, dried and faded using a 20% white 80% IPA
From Homeshops.net
Weathered pictures tomorrow
Another tank car
Cleaned
clear coated
faded using 20% white and 80% IPA
Weathering grime is a mix of dark earth and brown
tomorrow is new couplers and touch ups if needed and then a final clear coat
this next picture is the inspiration for the next car up
I like the tankers, great work, as always, unfortunately I've no space for more of them. otherwise.........?
I'm interested to see how this one turns out.
Thanks Chris.
Going to work on the autorack and then back to covered hoppers that I have not done in awhile. The ones I did for you might be the one of the last. Pictures on those when I get them beyond the clear coat stage they have been in for months
I love that last tank car…it’s been around the block many times
