Yes, I like this, my only suggestion would be a touch more grime on the right hand walkways #042 (2nd foto), but yes, excellent as always Tom. :)

Job's a good 'un Tom, looks brilliant to me, thank you.
I like the suggestion. It is why I post the pictures here. When i work on multiple same style cars it always helps me to have more eyes on it then just Terry’s and mine.

Good morning. I was reading my emails this morning. I look daily but rarely use or receive emails. Most of my communication for the weathering clients is via Facebook Messenger.

The Guy I built the paper mill for New Years delivery and then faded his 24 potash cars has another group of cars he wants done. But, he wants me to teach his 16 year old granddaughter who lives in this area. I have no clue where this “area” is and it can be pretty big. But, sure no issue for me. I have a friend learning air brushing and weathering using my equipment. She will fit right in. So, I emailed back and he then called.

She does graffiti and got caught adding it to a public building. He wants her to channel that artistic talent into something useful. Turns out she goes to the local high school and she has her license and a car. Can she come over after school? Lots more involved due to her getting caught but this could be interesting.

Now though I need to talk to Terry about this!

Meanwhile back at the bench…

Looked at the 2 Covered Hoppers and the suggestions made yesterday were definitely agreed with by the critic named Terry. So this morning I will play with the 2 cars. I would like to get them and the balance of the reefer cars clear coated today and let dry for 24 hours.

My graffiti! Not ready to show the hand painted custom side of the car. But it might be done. I did what is called a “piece”. Lots of tags though and those I like. Not real thrilled with the graffiti “piece”. The car is clear coated and if I deem it I can remove the graffiti piece without damaging the car side.

The guy down the street came by yesterday to pay me for the 4 vehicles I did for his accident re-construction scene. He went to court with his scene and my models, did his testimony and got paid Wednesday. Lets just say, if he needs something done in the future, I’m there!

Got to go, I hear the garage door opening so Terry has returned, discussion time

Talked to Terry, she is fine with it as long as she is in the house when the 16 year old is here. Never even thought like that but she did.

Then I spoke to her granddad who will show up here with the cars around noon. He was already heading here in his truck. He’s 2-3 hours away depending on traffic. I called my friend who is weathering his stuff here and he will be here at noon as part of the discussion. His 16 year old granddaughter goes to the same high school.

Granddad now wants to discuss buying my wet/dry grain bins that didn’t sell a few weeks ago and me building a flour mill for him. If he gives me a year, I’d think about it, but I don’t really want to even if I bill hourly. I will not build it scratch, Kit bashing is a possibility but absolutely not scratch.

The granddaughter will be here at 1 then Terry and I will decide over weekend.

This is Covered Hopper SKNX 397042 with some additional work from yesterday’s pictures. Let me know

I think Tom (#2) was right, that rust on the ladders, set's it off very nicely along with the grime around the bottom hatches, makes them look like they've worked hard, excellent Tom, I'm more than happy with this one and the other two, I'd better make space for a few more pieces of your artwork. Great work Tom, thank you.:).👍

Thanks Chris. I will rust up the couplers and shoot it with another clear coat. Pictures on Sunday

Just started on this car. Both sides will be graffiti decals. I just ordered another 10 brown TBOX cars and 2 yellow. All to be done with graffiti decals, numbers changed and lightly grimed. The client wants these done as his granddaughter learns to custom paint graffiti on HO scale cars instead of full sized public government buildings. I pushed my own ARMN reefers aside as I will be learning from her. She has mad graffiti skills but we are not sure she can transfer those skills to HO scale. She is ok with the arrangement, as is my buddy who will help, my wife and the girl’s granddad. Her court appointed guardian at lidem?, has the final say though.

Tom, did you just gloss coat the panels by the ladder? Then what did you use for the oil spillage? I like the overall car but the spill adds character
The car was dulled with grimy black. Then I took a paint brush with gloss clear and made the wet spill look. First time trying this. One good thing if you goof or don't like it, grimy black can fix it.
I've seen a lot of video's with the spill down the side and was thinking of a couple different methods. This was the first.

I like they way that looks, very realistic.

Just the gloss! I really like it and will try that on the next tank car

I believe these are done.

I ”cracked” open the 2 covered hoppers Chris ordered from Enginehouse Serives in Green Bay just to make sure nothing is broken and I can report they look damn good and they roll very nicely. But boy Chris hit them with a dull clear coat as soon as you open them, they are bright. Especially compared to the weathered hoppers.

Yes, thank you Tom, the hoppers look brilliant, very happy with them, another excellent weathering job, you can be proud of. I can't wait to get my hands on them

I see what you mean about the Enginehouse Hoppers, definitely bright compared to your CN hoppers, but I love the colour scheme they have which is pretty much the only reason I wanted them.

Thank you. No I understood why you purchased the 2 Sclair hoppers when the packaged showed up at the house. They are bright out of the box but the prototype pictures are fairly bright too. They are catchy!
I knew they were bright, I think with a spray of dullcoat, hopefully it will tone them down a touch, I actually don't want these weathered, just a little less shiny. and I have the 3 CN cars that I need to do as well.

But maybe one day someone will ask you weather a few, given free reign, love to see what you would do with them.

Agree, dust a clear matte finish will kill the bright shine.

A very neglected CSX GP 38-2, I might have got carried away with this but I certainly enjoyed the process. It was all a bit "lets see what happens" isopropyl alcohol and Vallejo burnt umber for the rust. The patch work of fade/missing paint was just different shades of blue/gray or yellow. I've always thought the Athearn version of CSX blue is a little dark so dabbed on a lighter shade( it's actually British Rail standard blue).

I love it. I really have to restrain myself from going overboard on weathering, but this one works for me.

nice job

Not in any rush but I will be working on 3 items to weather. A locomotive you can look in on the Weathering locomotives a continous thread…

and 2 more Covered hoppers.

I cleaned and then sprayed a matte clear finish on these. 2 CN Covered Hoppers sitting without trucks and wheels on the pulp yard track. A slight fade, some grime and dirty trucks.
