And it looks like the coupler pin on 582 is damagedJust looking at the couplers you can see they were used.

Not damaged but cutdown. Not sure how I missed that. When I cut the Kadee coupler pins I remove it all and file down the nub.And it looks like the coupler pin on 582 is damaged
I rarely cut the pins, pair of pliers to bend them a bit more works for me.Not damaged but cutdown. Not sure how I missed that. When I cut the Kadee coupler pins I remove it all and file down the nub.
For my use I would remove the couplers no matter what kind they are and change to the Kadee whisker that fits.
I really dislike the pins. I would rather add my own hoses but I have added it to some of my fleet and really no one cares. So now I leave them on as I rotate my fleet so much many folks I sell to want the pins on the couplers.I rarely cut the pins, pair of pliers to bend them a bit more works for me.
Now I'm home I can see what you mean, and Yes, I really like what you've done here Tom, looks excellent.Hi.
About the 2 Intermountain Hoppers I got an email saying call the store. Called! Got the option to return them or keep them and get a 50% store credit. I took the keep and store credit. Lady I spoke to says it’s unclear in their paperwork but her and her hubby think it was mislabels and should have been in the pre-owned bin and not available online to buy. That’s done and over and I am ok with it.
Next up…

I like it now! The sides I feel while both are different do the car justice. The roof hatches are fiberglass so I faded them. The hinges and straps on the hatches have been touched with Burnt Umber to show that the rust has started. Since this is an aluminum roof and side panels I left some of the color on the roof. You can see the rust build up from the hinges accumulating under the see through roof walks
I will add some road grime splatter to both end panels this afternoon
Nice one Tom.While I wait for 2 Covered Hoppers to dry I pulled out a ARMN/UP reefer. This side is decals from Circuscitydecals.com and the first use of graffiti decals for me. Still learning about graffiti decals but I followed the directions and Ilike what I did.

Tomorrow, I will do the other side of the car, but that side will be custom hand painted by me. I have been practicing on a few cars and it’s time.
I will then lightly weather both sides of the car
21 more for myself to weather and most will have the custom graffiti. But no rush but I will work on this one to completion this week. I have maybe enough decals to do another 1 side of a carWell done Tom!
These are some of my favorite cars.
Thank you. The decals set pretty good against all the hinges, bars and other things sticking out. I just hit this side with a spray of matte clear. Just a last minute decision after I added some grime/splatter on the end panels of the covered hoppers.Looks good Tom.

I always have enjoyed seeing a string of reefers, I have been looking for these cars at reasonable prices for awhile. When I found them in December/January I jumped and now I have enough for a unit train.
I totally understand. Purchased a few Atlas in November. Found 32 BLMA @ $34 each new online but he actually sent 4 BLMA and 28 Atlas which basically are the same in January. The same dealer found another 20 for me at $33 each. Plus my 2 Exactrail I had plenty for 2 through trains and a few cars to be switched around the cold storage facilities on the layout. Sold off the duplicate low position numbers of the ARMN/UP last Sunday.I pre-ordered all 18 road numbers form the Atlas/BLMA run last year at $36.99 ea. Glad I took that bite. Prices on the secondary market are back to insane. Between the Exactrail, and Atlas runs i have close to 30 of these.
Yes, I like this, my only suggestion would be a touch more grime on the right hand walkways #042 (2nd foto), but yes, excellent as always Tom.
Job's a good 'un Tom, looks brilliant to me, thank you.
Thanks. I thought about rust at the ladders. I did that on car #1 and I wanted different on these 2 but now that you mentioned it. Light rust, ummmmThey look great. Plenty dirty enough and faded. The prototype has the ribs blacken, don't know if you want to go that far. Some small detail I do is a little rust where the ladder bolts are down on the bottom where it would get wet and grim and paint the brake chain rust color but, the tone of the car it won't stand out like gray car for example.
