if loksound is good why did they get a bad rap when they were installed in the 07/08 run of genesis big boys & they swapped to tsunaimi ???just curious ??
Are you sure you don't have the PCM Big Boy and Genesis Big Boy confused with each other? The PCM had Loksound, the Genesis had MRC.

terry my bad thats right it was MRC:p i have 2 big boys from that run, i want to replace the decoders but not sure what to go with
& i have the BLI version too with the loksound:cool:

Tsunami usually has the better sound files, Loksound usually has better motor control. MRC has better smoke output from the decoder...

My whole fleet (17 loco's) are Tsunami equipped and I love em. I havnt tried a Loksound decoder yet, but I have been tempted in the past.

They said the amplifier is sensitive to static electricity. What can i do after i solder the connections to eliminate the risk of this happening again? Wrap it in electrical tape?

That's an interesting bit of info that has slipped by without notice. I would think the greatest source of static electricity would be from or to our own bodies. I know I get some great sparks off metal objects when the air is dry and hot, shopping trolleys for instance are great culprits. The action of walking on synthetic carpet or carpet tiles can create a build up on our skin and clothes which when we touch something that is earthed, releases that energy through that object. Maybe a better solution than trying to increase the insulation would be to have earthing points around the layout to touch before touching your locos.

If nothing else it could provide amusement for others.

Tsunami's are falling behind in their technology. All the their sounds are the same with no improvements. However Loksound and TCS Wow decoders are getting some great reviews, and have surpassed Tsunami technology in both motor control, and sound quality.

For big steam the TCS Wow decoders are the best choice.

One problem with modern technology is that it is the best for only a short period of tme. Makes one wonder if it is worth spending lots of money on something that will be surpased in preformance in a year or two.

It's no different than buying a new car, or new computer. Something better is always just around the corner.
I have one ESU product, which seems to work okay. Shortly I am going to get a pair of ESU decoder kits from Intermountain for my U18Bs for extended testing, both at home and on our club layout. Depending on how they work out, there may or may not be more ESU products at my house, or I may stay with Soundtraxx products.
