Hello All,

I wanted to show off some of the cool goodies I got at this month's train show. There is a train show that is held in Wheaton, IL every month (except July) that is one of the biggest and oldest around. I always find the best deals here. I thought I would show off some cool stuff I got this weekend. :)

First item: Custom Metra #4 switcher

This is a one-of-a-kind Athearn switcher painted for Chicago Metra. The guy who painted this said he'll never do this exact one ever again. :)

Picked it up for $125 :)

Second Item: Broadway Limited AC6000 Paragon - Union Pacific

I saw this and the guy was asking $135 for it, DC with no sound. I told my wife that I liked it, but that it was too expensive and that I had gotten another one just like it previously for $100. After hearing that, the guy selling it offered it to me for $90. I was tempted but said maybe I'll come back. He dropped the price to $75 on hearing that. How could I pass that up?

It looks so cool next to my other AC6000 from Broadway Limited. This one was a Blueline DC locomotive with sound.

Third Find: Athearn CNW C44-9W Dummy:

I found this at the show and couldn't pass it up. Dummies are a great way to create 2+ engine consists when you don't need the power of 2+ engines. For $15, how could I pass this up?

I had a good day at the train show today. :)

Hey I was there too. Picked up some second hand buildings to fix up and my first decoder to attempt to install. Nice haul you got there. I think I was eyeing that CNW you got there.

At the last swap meet here in Denver (a month ago now). I got a Proto-2000 0-6-0 for $85, three proto-2000 freight car kits for $4 each, a pile of Atlas turnouts for $2 each, an over sized case of Atlas flex track for less than $2 a strip, and umm umm oh yeah A Bowser Challenger locomotive kit for $45. I think I have enough of those now I should start building one!

I've built 7 of those, only one of which was superdetailed. Of the seven, the superdetailed one was mine. They are great kits, esp if you follow their instructions. Mine could pull over 150 cars by itself. Since these don't come with a tender, I used the tender off of an old broken Rivarossi big boy, and added all wheel pickup to the loco and tender. That thing refused to stall!

Great finds! I had planned to go to that show this past weekend for the first time, but the meeting I had in Illinois that would have been my excuse to make the trip got canceled. :(. Hope to get there some month soon, though...

I picked up several buildings (Walthers, DPM, etc.) at a show in Fort Wayne, IN last weekend. I spent around $80. Some were kits still in the packages, others started and some completed. For the prices (I was picky) I can afford to refinish/kitbash/tear apart to get what I want. There are usually bargains to be found if you take the time to look.

When I go to the train show, Sometimes it's at Greenberg's or mostly at Timonium Maryland, I'm looking for stuff that appeals to me. I'm not a prototype modeler. I want stuff that is going to catch the ideas and imaginations of kids. I'm not talking Thomas the Tank or whatever they call it. I get fantasy rolling stock . Colorful and yet relatable. My trains pull stuff we use in everyday life. I have rolling stock for Dorito's Chips, Coca-Cola , Pepsi Cola, Vlassic Pickles, Champion Spark Plugs, Valvoline Motor Oil, Napa Auto Parts, Black & Decker, Chef Boyardee, Toy R Us, 7-11, all kinds of things that kids young adults can relate to... I ride the railroad to the imagination. My favorite railroads to pull are Norfolk Southern, CSX, Burlington Northern & Santa FE (Separated from BNSF) Union Pacific, Delaware and Hudson, Chessie System and Seaboard Coastline (Separated from CSX) Gulf Mobile and Ohio, Illinois Central Gulf, RF&P and of course the

I'm always on the lookout for the fantasy reefer's. The ones that the logos are made from fruit crate labels. They are just usually so expensive, I have very few. The ShowMeHobbies in Missouri stopped doing the California Dreamin' series.
