tooters scooters...

The motor mount appears to be fabricated...

...you can see open screw holes on one side which suggests that there was originally a top plate.

Wow, that Bachmann site got me drooling.

Hey Greg, can't wait to see how you shorten that caboose!

I think I'm going to leave this one as is because so much of the detailing between the trucks would be lost...

...it's only 30' long as is. ;)

Greg

Hmm, did you get it like that? Was it in a 44-tonner or did you just buy the powered truck?

I just bought the whole engine ready-to-run from someone else who did an absolutely impeccable job of building it...

...because I simply don't have 10 percent of the modelling skills needed to do finely detailed stuff like this.

Greg, are those Kadee #18s? Still seems like the coupler height is a bit low.

Yes, they're #18's, and they pop right into the empty European pockets. :)
Here's a couple of Kadee #205 coupler gauges for reference...

...they're reasonably close. The Roundhouse couplers ride just a little high to accentuate the difference.

Ah! Do you have uncoupling problems? Did you try shimming the couplers down on the caboose? Have you considered Kadee #42s?

The Grandt Line 25 tonner looks like it would have plenty of room for a Bachmann truck...

The truck fits but you'll need to trim just a little bit inside the cab.
The wheelbase is off a little too but not really noticable.
I also added weight where possible, for example on the inside of the roof above the engineer.

Thanks for the info, Rico... :)
The wheelbase on the 15 ton Mack is also slightly different than the sideplates of the shell, but you have to look close to see it. Much of modelling is an overall visual impression, so the inevitable imperfections usually aren't an issue.

Will I still have room to install a tiny decoder and/or lights? I'm planning on either LEDs or surface mount LEDs (if 3mm LEDs don't fit) for headlights, and a Z scale decoder for DCC.

I can do the electronics part, just not so sure about the assembly and painting :D

I think a z decoder might squish in up front under the hood, failing that it could go where I stuck the wheel weight on the roof I'd suspect.
I never got around to lighting the wee beastie or decodering it.
Let me know how it goes, maybe I'll do mine as well.

I don't have one yet. I'm still trying to decide whether my modeling skills are advanced enough to paint it up for the P&W

I think this is a Grandt line, can't remember.
It is powered by a Bachman 44 ton truck:

How did you fit the truck into the shell? I'm having one built for me and he tried to put the powered truck in, but it was too wide and cracked the shell!

Do you have any photos of it with the drive in place?
