17,18,19,20 (short, medium, long, extra long)

They're all underset shank since the european coupler pockets have a standard height which is low compared to the NMRA standard.

The couplers are metal, but the shank that snaps into the pocket is plastic

I'm so happy that Kadee has the solution. :)
Just ordered two bags of #18 off ebay to get me started.

The #18 Kadees will arrive any day now. The European couplers already got popped off...

...waiting to put on the Kadees. It already looks better without them. :)

I think this ride has already been fully pimped out... ;)

Well, not completely. ;)

Put on some Kadee couplers. They work super at adapting European engines and rolling stock to fit all of the American stuff.

KJD sold me his little 15 ton Mack powered loco.
It's far beyond my modelling capabilities...

It fits the little scratchbuilt flat car perfectly... :)

Hi burn, :)

It has a Bachmann 44 Ton Diesel Switcher truck in it. They're popular for powering critters. These compact low geared trucks each have their own individual 5 pole motor and current pickup. There are reduction gears between the oversized brass worm gear that also acts as a flywheel, and the axle, and 1:1 gears between the axles so that both are driven.

Just whatever rattlecan is available... ;)

Basically black ones, red ones, and green ones. I'm not adhering to any prototype. It's going to be a tiny fantasy railroad where all of the engines are critters and none of the rolling stock is longer than 30'. :)

Greg

Where can I find those powered trucks? I want a GE 25 tonner with one of those under it. (I'm not sure if my modeling skills are up to the level of building and painting one of those though)

I don't know...
My best guess would be to buy an old Bachmann 44 tonner with dual motors off ebay and cannibalize it for the powered trucks.

Greg

Hmm, it looks different from your powered truck. I wonder if it will fit under a Grandt Line GE 25 tonner? I want one really bad :D

I suspect mine was from an old 44 tonner, because although it's a 5 pole motor, it isn't skew wound like the new model.

The new 44 tonner motors won't fit into the 15 ton mack. Just tried it tonight. Chalk another failure (more like just a set back but after the turnout issue I just ran into tonight, I will label it a "failure" [for now]). The motor clamp/tie-down incases the entire motor from the front to the rear. The older motors clamp is on the sides of the motor making it shorter. I might try to lengthen the body of the Mack (never done that kinda thing, yet) to compensate for the extra motor length. Just figured I would give you guys the heads up.

And the clamp can't be removed? I'm looking at it and I see screws. It looks like you can remove the top part, then somehow mill/cut off the part jutting out on the bottom half?

What about height? Is the newer one any taller than the older one?
